Mr. s. Nice. Unfortunately I don't think this site has the bandwidth to take MY winter to do list. Now, entirely different situation as to how MANY things get done but...

All new raymarine setup. acu 400, ev1 sensor, p70r autopilot display and es series 128. Seatalk ng cabling. Just waiting on a backbone cable to connect the bus. Last purchase will be a new radar. Any recommendations on either a quantum 2 or hd color.

I do have a list, but for the time being I'm ignoring it and have worked on 'priority items'. And its summer here anyway.

But my immediate projects after a 5 month cruise to the Great Barrier Reef have been/are:

1. Dingy crane. Intermittent clicking and no movement. It turned out to be an earth problem for the 12V power pack. By design the earth is on an aluminium plate that connects to the pump which has the motor bolted to it. Too many point of contact for corrosion, which did happen after 6 years. Solution was an earth lug welded onto the motor housing itself.

2. Anchor chain counter mis-reading or increasing randomly when not being operated. Dealer said could be a bad earth, but it wasn't. After thoroughly checking all the easy options without resolution I replace the sensor. Problem fixed. But it required complete removal of the windlass to replace the sensor. A big PITA.

3. Solar panel (20W) & small charge controller added to RIB. Because I had a spare battery in reasonable condition, and there was room available, I added a second battery to the RIB and relocated the isolator switch, positive and negative bus-bars in the console to be more convenient position while doing it.

4. Replace Perko mortise latch sets on 3 exterior doors. The lever arms inside the Perko backsets are diecast crap-metal and break. The PO had left 7 old ones(broken) on board! A local marine wholesale business import SS units from Italy, which are likely designed as locks for security screen doors. But the backset is slimline and only minimal woodworking was involved to switch them out. A lot cheaper than new Perko as well!

5. Varnish exterior wood. Maintenance coats on some areas, strip some rub rails back to wood for 6 coats of Deks Olje. Strip some window frames back to wood (first work on them in 6 years) and then 6 coats.

6. Modify clears for cockpit. The clear panels were in need of replacement, but in this climate they were never needed. So I'm having the clear panels removed and replace by holey stuff that is easy to see through, but blocks 95% of UV. Mostly to block some late afternoon sun or give a bit of privacy if stern-in at a slip.

7. Replace failed hot water tank. Expensive, and still waiting on delivery on new one!

8. And there's always a bunch of little things to do as well!

Great idea for a thread. We have dinner guests just about to arrive and I have already poured my first Jamesons so I will post mine up tomorrow.

I have one more coat on the screens. Then I have to do five more coats on two other larger screens.
I installed my backbone cable to my raymarine network. Did the updates to my acu and p70s but my system doesn't see the ev1 sensor core. What I have read was it will have to be updated by a raymarine dealer. I tried everything they said to do to no avail.

I am building a dinghy to use with our Allweather. We have no room on deck so we tow the dinghy all the time. We first had a inflatable but it had seen better years and I didn't trust it anymore. Most of last summer we used a 9.5' plywood skiff, it is a great boat but heavy. This boat is very light and will be fast with 3.5hp and row really well. It is a catamaran at low to medium loads.

nice work

Autopilot dockside setup complete. Now to get out for a sea trial for further set up. Have Ais contacts from my standard horizon 2200 vhf on my chart thrugj nnea 0183. Next is the quantum 2 radar install. The transducer install will happen at next haulout in early spring.

My "big" update this year is to install a fuel transfer/filter system. Once that is done, will alternately empty and clean the 2 tanks (300 gal each - currently about 100 gal in each) There is a good sized inspection port in the top of both tanks, I just hope the internal baffles don't restrict access too much.


I am not having any fuel problems and I don't want any. I'll post pictures when I get into it.

OK, so without pics it didn't happen! Follow-up from my previous post (#8) with list of jobs, a few pics:
1 & 2. Old Perko lockset and then new Italian replacement
3. Raritan Hot water heater in place, and working
4. Cockpit covers, clears having been replaced by 95% blockout mesh. And some green masking tape still in place around window trims being refinished.

Air Conditioning

This is the short list. Have another 30 lesser items on the big list. Need to complete #1 first in order to anything else. Can't find a thing really but I have triplicates of some tools, need to take 90% of what I have aboard home. Somehow they magically migrated to the boat. I could build another boat with what I have onboard.

Winter Dock Upgrades

It was time to upgrade the gang ramp to my winter dock as I felt it was becoming a safety issue. I also put up a new gazebo.

Like the improvements, you really didn’t have to do that for us to stay a few days. But much appreciated just the same. LOL!!!!

Now THAT's a project. It's a boat project kinda sorta. Gotta be able to get to the boat to the other things. Looks very nice. Having done similar projects I can really appreciate the amount of work that went into it.

New Raymarine Quantum 2 installed today.

I bought a pair of fiberglass prop tunnel extensions from a fellow 38 Bayliner owner who builds them during the winter. They direct the flow down from the props, cuts down on prop wash and swim platform dragging in the prop wash. Owners who have installed them report a 1 to 1.5 knot increase in speed at same rpm. The bow will stay down without tabs down. Marina is supposed to haul this spring to install, here is a picture of someone else’s with aluminum extensions. That was my 1st plan to have a local fabricator build a set with aluminum, I decided to go with the fiberglass after reports from other owners who purchased them.

We have both, one manual and one electric. I rarely use the manual.

Nice table, is it curly maple? Plain or plywood?
