Unfortunately we will not be able to complete our “Great Loop” adventure on our Prairie 36. So my question is, should I sell her where she lies in Mississippi or move her to another location?

She is currently at Aqua Yacht Harbor just south of Pickwick Dam and Lock and the beginning of the Tenn/Tom Waterway. It’s right on the “Great Loop” and therefore would make it easy for someone to buy it and start the Loop from there.

However, I’m not sure about the Tennessee/Mississippi boat buying markets as compared to Florida or the East Coast. Would I be able to get more for the Prairie 36 in a different market? If so, would it off set the costs of moving it?

Anyone have previous experience with this or suggestions on how to proceed?

I’d sell where you are.
I read the boat market in Florida is a buyers market and it would be very impractical to go elsewhere.
Advertise in CraigsList first and probably not a good idea to put a bargin price on her as others later on will perhaps say “well my offer was good enough two months ago .....

Oh, wow, sorry to hear. I was hoping to be able to brag about another Prairie completing the loop.

I'd sell where it is. People will go far for the right boat. Just be sure it's advertised on the big web sites. Last year I helped deliver a boat from Chattanooga to NH. We went right by where you are now. The PO of my Prairie had an offer from a guy in California, who was trying to get a price for shipping cross country, but I bought it first ;)

I am SO very sorry FOG that you cannot complete your Dream.

We both know how Prairies have a "cult" following. If someone wants a Prairie, they will go anywhere to get it. AND one such as yours with all the bells, whistles, special things and proven record of the LOOP! Well, the one who gets it will be thrilled.

I wish you well in all that is ahead.

Tim

Sorry to hear you are selling your boat. Hope everything goes well.

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement and advice.

That's a shame that your plans have gone awry.

Post it here on T.F. but also with a major broker and/or something like Craigs List. Just be carefull. May the sale go well and you go well too.

Thank you. I do plan to post it here in the classified section.

But for now I’m just trying to figure out if it’s best to sell it where it is or move it somewhere else.

Greetings,
Mr. F. Nothing to lose, really, if you start advertising her where she is THEN move to a potentially better market area. As has been mentioned, people are quite willing to travel for a good vessel.

Good suggestion. Thank you.

We currently live in New Mexico but bought a small retirement house about a mile for Aqua Harbor. We will be visiting the area over Christmas and would be great if we can get more info, $, pics, and perhaps look at your boat when we are there.

We kept a boat at Aqua a while and spent time in the area and saw a lot of boats in the area that it would fit in well with as we looked at the various marinas and the boat listings. It would make a great river boat or loop boat and I'd think there is actually some advantage to it's location because there are not as many similar boats available there. Might even allow for a slightly higher price. It's a size that fits well in Marinas all along the rivers. Locking is so much of river boating and it's large enough to be comfortable, but small enough that it's easy to lock. I see great appeal where it is.

Thanks. I sent you a private message with some info and my phone number.

Thank you. This is the type of information that I was looking for.
Agree from my experience on the Loop that the size and ability to easily walk around the decks when docking and locking is a plus.

Thanks to all the TF members for the kind words and advice.
I have decided to list our Prairie 36 with a broker, Captains Choice, here at Aqua Yacht Harbor in Mississippi. I’m going to miss the old girl.

That is the correct listing for my boat.
