Raymarine C-80 issues

Well..after repairing the intermittent fade out of my screen, it now appears that it won't read any of my chart cards. A West Marine salesman suggested that it might need updating. Any suggestions? If update is necessary, where and what kind of cable do I need to hook my puter to it? What is the procedure?
Thanks for any advice you can give. BTW, I'm not interested in upgrading the system at this time.

Compact Flash card

You'll need a small - 32mb or less - clean compact flash card. You'll need a compact flash card to usb reader [less than $10US]. Download update from RM and install to C80.

You should try resetting C80 to factory settings before you mess with update.

+1. Also as recommended did you call RM support? I have found them to be very good and willing to help.
