Secure Core aluminum anodes

Since learning about these anodes by Performance Metals here, I have been looking for a source. Performance Metals said to go to USAzincs who told me they don't stock them but could order them in sets of 20. So far google searches are getting me nowhere. My bet is that somebody here has discovered a way to get ones and twos of them.
 
I don't think those are the Secure Core technology from Performance Metals. The email I got from USAZincs said they do not stock the Secure Core but could order me 20. Performance Metals said their site was only for commercial interests and suggested USAZincs. The classic "Do-loop."
 
While I understand the advantage of the secure core pencil zincs, wouldn't simply checking them more frequently avoid the problems of them breaking off into the HX or aftercooler?


I check mine every three months. Typically replace every 6 months. This last time I just swapped the top and bottom anode in the aftercooler.

Somethings up. I checked and did buy the Performance Metal aluminum anodes from USAzincs last year. USAzincs lists them on their web site and the part numbers (old vs new cross reference) work for both companies from the web sites. Who knows what’s going on?

We have Aluminum anodes on everything. I’m no sure it makes a difference on the heat exchanger but we wanted to go all with the same anodes/sacrificials all the way around. In the past even after three months, we had zincs break off or get lodged in the heat exchanger. Maybe it’s a problem with the FLs and the tight fit of the zincs or anodes? We do get a longer life out of the Al and no more no more broken pieces. The picture is after 185 hours/4 months.

I would email PM and tell them they can't supply sizes in sm qty
I contacted them and they sold direct to me.

These are not zincs; they are aluminum anodes and probably better for my engine/generator because they are mostly sitting after having been rinsed worth freshwater.

I do check main engine anodes every 90 days. The generator not so often. Last year the generator zinc wasted away, and the last bit of it lodged in the seawater cooling circuit mostly clogging it and contributing to several overheating events until i found it (too late) which contributed to a ruined one-cylinder Kubota engine on my Nextgen genny which resulted in a $5,100 replacement. So the overall benefit of a secure core is tremendous for me.

I did that yesterday, and they say they are checking availability. It's just sort of strange for them not to have a retail dealer who stocks them.

I have wondered about using aluminum anodes in an engine that is fresh water flushed. Every time I wonder about it, I get mixed answers.
 
I have seen claims that the aluminum is better in both applications. Anyway, I'm shifting to AL.

Not a "claim", actually a scientific fact. Zinc works only in salt water. Magnesium works only in fresh water. Aluminum works in all waters.

I brought my 1/2" and 1/4" Performance Metals anodes from Go 2 Marine. They're an online dealer for them but don't stock the aluminum ones. Talked to them on the phone after being referred to them by Performance metals. Placed a phone order with them and it was dropped shipped from Performance Metals. Don't know if there's a minimum, I ordered 6 of the 1/2" and 8 of the 1/4" (2 sets of all my boat's anodes).

In June, I purchased two full sets for my Cummins 6BTA's directly from Performance Metals by phone with a credit card. Had them in two days. Easy to deal with, nice folks.:thumb:

Worth trying to buy directly then. One thing that is nice is they make the 1 3/4” anodes that my Cummins HX takes. Right now I’m using 1 1/2” anodes rather than cutting a 1/4” off 2” anodes.

Go2M is where I purchased mine previously. I don't mind them not stocking them but they took all alum off their webstore so you can't look up sizes to confirm they even exist and order by part #.
I went to the Prec Metals site and emailed them the list of #s & qty then called w CC#.
