I’d like to get my son into fishing but want to avoid rockfish areas so does anyone know any decent spots for flatfish (sole, flounder) around the San Juan’s?
Not looking for any secret spots, just someplace hopefully near hunter bay a 4 year old will likely get a few bites and maybe a keeper.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Just outside the San Juans, North side of Guemes Island we catch lots of flounder, sanddabs and sole which we use as live bait for lingcod fishing in the Spring.

Don't know if they're there all year long, but worth a try. Chunk of chicken and skin pulled over a medium size hook and a 6 oz sinker a couple feet above, In 20' to 30' of water, drag it along the sandy bottom. If there is wind or tidal current anchor once you get into them. No rock fish, but there are the occasional sand shark and crab.

In the area of 48.33.39 N - 122.35.52 W
