We'd like to make (or buy) a stern fly canvas that's easy to put on and take off. Does anyone have any ideas. My husband can construct the fittings and I have a good canvas maker.

Here is ours
We made the one shown using awning track and Keder awning rope from Sailrite to attach the leading edge under the hardtop. I used 2” closet rods with a pad eye at the top and a cleat for the rear support poles.
We just drop the poles in the rod holders, thread the awning rope thru the track and tighten the rear lines. It’s up in 2 minutes, down just as fast.
I’ve also seen people use collapsible tent pole for similar tops. Sailrite has good instructional videos on using the track and rope system.

We just bought a patio sun shade at amazon, and two adjustable poles. It clips to the back of the flybridge bimini, and the poles hold up the back. Two lines from each back corner hold it down and tight.

Not sure what you are going for, but we made a shade for the stern, that we can also hang from either the front of the Bimini or the radar arch, depending where we need shade. Here it is shading the cockpit.

Jill, don't know about your boat configuration, but we made our sunscreens from 70% Phifertex, button snaps at the top, velcro straps on the bottom. The compound curves at the corners were a little challenging to loft out and sew, but came out well.We'd like to make (or buy) a stern fly canvas that's easy to put on and take off. Thanks! I should add that they are attached with Stainless carabiners at the top. In the cockpit and on radar arch with installed stainless eyes, and on the bimini with stainless grommets on the edge. The bottom edge has grommets with tiny lines that we tie off to the handrail at the stern, or to the bimini frame up top. Super easy to throw up and move around to where ever we need the shade.
Although, I love GreySailor's surround too! I would have done that on our previous sundeck had we kept it.
