Made it! After a beautiful night, some good fishing, and a swift butt kicking including 3-6 footers, we landed at bald hill marina near Southport.

We're on the road again. We're a little worn and struggling with cell service , so maybe I'll type up a wordier story later

Aiming for dudleys in swansboro tonight. Relatively straight forward so far minus a clogged fuel filter. I should have seen that coming with all the rough weather. Pretty breezy. I'm glad we're in protected waters today. Looks like hurricane Chris could cause some delays when we come out the far side, in Newport news. Just another thing to keep an eye on.

A great day today. Buzzed through Moorhead city, had a lumpy ride across the neuse but nothing unmanageable, and are heading for an anchorage just past belhaven for the night.

I even had time for a little sanding. I know I know, I only had 150 grit on board. It will need another round at some point. At least I got the old peely varnish off.

Stopped in coinjock last night after 70 miles. We were thinking we'd tack on a few more but a stubborn, clogged fuel filter made it prudent for us to grab some dinner, diesel, and beer ashore.

Flying through Newport news now, were going to opt for an overnight run up the Chesapeake instead of a borderline weather report for our run offshore to the mouth of Delaware.

Sucks to hear about your trouble. Glad you have things under control to get back underway. Safe travels.

Make sure you stay in deep (40'+) water if traveling at night up the Chesapeake as it's crab pot season here.

I've never dealt with crab pots or other similar hazards. From what I have seen and heard from others, I'd rather see the dentist. :nonono:

The channel itself will have fewer crab pots, but there will still be a few in the channel as they tend to move around a bit if they're anchored individually. Most pots now are on a length of line which lays on the bottom connecting a number of pots and they tend to run in a more or less straight line. Very few are anchored individually. They're nothing compared with the lobster pots in Maine (but you won't have to worry about them since you're stopping in RI).

May be too late to help you, but perhaps others can benefit. When you buy a boat that has a load of diesel onboard that hasn't been used in a year or so, carry a dozen filters so you can switch them out as the clog up. Hopefully, you'll have a Racor manifold (or something similar) with two filters so you can switch to a new one with a turn of the valve handle and change the clogged one at your next stop. Riding through rough seas (even if only slightly uncomfortable) will stir up all the sediment in the tank and quickly clog a filter.

Thanks for the concern everyone. It wouldn't be an adventure without it's trials.

We flew up the Chesapeake, through the c and d, and then got rolled in the 4' $#!! that the Delaware is so famous for. We made cape May around 1am last night.

After a refueling, we took off for NYC this morning around 730. Currently passing manasquan, we're aiming for an anchorage inside Sandy Hook around midnight. Our crew, Jason, will be flying home to Savannah tomorrow. Luckily it's just a couple daylight hops to Rhode island from there.

A couple photos from the past 36 hours or so.

We're anchored behind Sandy Hook. We'll see what we can do after dropping off our crew member this morning to send him back to Savannah. Some of us do this"work" thing I guess

The view this morning. The NYC skyline. I wish my phone could have gotten a picture last night. It looked great. It was lit up and there were fireworks going off.

We just dropped the hook in Manhasset harbor. An awesome anchorage/ mooring field if you can get one. After dropping our third crew member off this morning and catching coffee with an old friend, We did the NYC thing today - going up to lady liberty, up the east River, through hell gate (we timed it WRONG, but hey it's more time to watch the skyline go by... Right?).

We opened our first bottle of departure gift wines today. Along with a homemade pizza, we're celebrating the final stretch (ok, maybe a little early).

AKA port Washington, apparently

We're anchored in the harbor of refuge tonight! We caught the tide coming through the race and made 12kts (in a 7 kt boat) at one point. 113 miles total today! The new marina is just around the corner now.

Overall just a great day on the water

1045 NAUTICAL miles, 608 gallons of diesel, 150.6 hours of run time on each engine, 12 hours on the generator, 4 fuel filters, 9 days, too many friends to count and one heck of an adventure. In Sanity is docked in Warwick RI as of 12 noon today.
