fuel tank inspection plate bolt weeping

One bolt on the inspection plate of one fuel tank is weeping.* When the fuel level was down enought we*removed the nut, cleaned it and the bolt, put gasket sealant on it and replaced the nut.* Initially it seemed to work but it is now weeping again.* Short of removing the entire inspection plate has anyone had success fixing this type of leak.* Thanks.
 
Well, if it's diesel, (not had experance on gas) you will need to re-thread the bolts 'nut' the plate that the bolt screws into.
Often times (me included) we over tighten the bolt resulting in the 'nuts' thread being damaged.
You could check this thread with a magnifying glass or similar to look for bent over threads, same for the bolt.
