Anchor job Scott Reef ...Broome Western Australia
*
Just completed a nice little anchor retrieval job up at Scott's Reef.
This one was unusual as the* location was a pristine coral reef area and the weather was just about perfect.
The anchor was only a small one , 5 tonne plus chain, cantenary wire and buoy.
Took us 2 days to steam up there from Dampier, down between the 2* reefs on arrival morning, very little tide, approach buoy go into DP mode and back up to buoy.
The lads threw a buoy catcher over the buoy and then we hauled this onto the deck. We then attached the wire from the anchor handling winch and hauled the wire up until we could drop the anchor chain into the shark jaws. This held the anchor and chain until we attached the tow winch wire to the anchor which was at the stern roller and hauled it on board whilst the 2 small tugger winches pulled and flaked the extra chain.
A lovely way to spend a few hours on a Sat morning.
The skipper on the DP , me on the winch controls and the boys on deck, warm and sunny (bloody hot)
Job done by 1130 hrs and steaming home.
The vessel

That anchor you retrieved might.... just might... hold Eric's 30' Willard on his desired all-nylon rode at a 1:1.5 scope. Or maybe not. But of all the anchors he's been buying and testing, this one looks like it has the most promise.

:)

Where can I get an anchor like that under 60 pounds or 27 kilograms?

You can probably get a shop to weld one up for you. Based on the photos it doesn't look real sophisticated. Might not work so good in very light weights and small sizes, though.

Perhaps you could get a shop to weld up a whole series of them for you, starting at about 15 lbs and then on up through 25 lbs, 33 lbs, and so on, up to about 100 lbs. Then you could challenge Eric up north to an anchor testing match, sort of like the old Junkyard Wars. Be a great reality show. The objective would be to come up with an anchor that will hold your boat in a sustained 50 knot wind for 5 hours at the lee*end of a one mile fetch in 50 feet of water with an all-nylon rode at a 1:2 scope.

You'll probably win if you can get hold of that anchor Benn retrieved.......

OK.* How about some financial backers and/or a volunteer welder?

* That was funny Marin.* The same thought popped into my mind the second I saw Benn's pic.* No offense Eric, we luv yuh dearly, but your efforts to find an anchor that defies all the laws of physics is quite entertaining.* Peace brother....
