Hi All,
I’m having trouble setting up my Maretron Display and was hoping you may have some pointers. It’s a DSM410 and connected to my N2k network.
The first issue is it seems to be displaying only a subset of the pgns being broadcast on the network and basic stuff like gps aren’t displaying. I’m a bit confused as n2k is so plug and play I’m not sure what could be wrong.
The second issue is it won’t pickup anything from my maretron J1939 converter, it sees it on the network but won’t pickup any info. At first I thought it was because the j2k wasn’t configured correctly but I’ve tried different instances with no luck. Is there some indicator of what the right settings would be in my JD6068 controller?
Attached are images of the config on the maretron and what my nmea2000 reader on the computer is seeing.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

And sorry about the sideways Picts, they aren’t when I upload them...

I've never configured a J2K100 via a display, only via N2KAnalyze, so I'm guessing a bit here....

It would seem that the display is telling you there is no active device on the J1939 side. Is the engine running, or at least the key switch turned on? I get no data out of mine with the key switch turned off.

The PGNs displayed in CE would suggest valid data coming from the J2K100, but maybe not... Many devices continue to send PGNs, but with blank data. Unfortunately CE does't parse the PGNs enough to see the actual data. N2KAnalyze does, as does Actisense NMEA Reader. But I gather you don't have an adapter that allows you to run one of those tools?

Unfortunately I don’t, I only have the rosepoint Nemo to read nmea2k.
Might be worth buying however if I can’t figure it out. Here was the latest capture and one of these pgns is for engine and the other for transmission, not sure if they are sending valid info however.

That's with the engine running? It's a lot of "f"s, so I'm guessing it's not valid data. Have you tried selecting a different J1939 instance? Maybe 1 rather than 0?

How are you tied into the J1939 bus? Is it up by the Murphy panel and powerview display? Or somewhere else. The J1939 bus is a triangular plug. See pictures. The CAN wires are green and yellow, and gray is the drain. Is it possible that you have the CAN + and - reversed?

Yeah I’ve tried the different instances but that’s a good call on checking the wiring, it’s wired off of the panel. Just left the boat but will be back tomorrow and confirm, I had Hatton do it when they put in the engine.

When you check the wiring, it's essential that it connect on the engine side of the PowerView display connected to port A, not the gauge side which is connected to port B. J1939 is only from the engine to the PV display. The daisy chain from the PV display to the individual gauges is not J1939.

Yellow is CAN+ and green is CAN-

Do you have the PowerView manual and the J2K100 manual? Send me a PM with your email address if you need either, though I got them both off the web.

Just got here and looking at it, the instructions I have say Can H and Can L, any idea what color that would be? Right now I have yellow to Can L

That sounds like the problem. Yellow is CAN-H or CAN+. not CAN-L or CAN-.

Swap them and I think you will be in business.

Twisted, you are awesome, thank you! In business!
I may have to post a warning about Hatton here in Seattle, they may be good at the base engine work but there is a laundry list of stuff they screwed up :/

Thanks again!!

How has the DSM410 worked out for you?

Works well! I’m going to put one in the flybridge as well. I like that I can set alarms on things like egt. But frankly if I didn’t have all of the temp info and engine info on the n2k network it wouldn’t be that useful.
