...in wonderful memories!

Just ran across this thought from another boater and thought it really worth sharing. Puts all our efforts in good perspective, doesn't it?

Enjoy! We are the lucky ones, aren't we?

"Everything on your boat is broken. You just don't know it yet."

"Everything on your boat is broken. You just don't know it yet."

I've heard this before and it's so true. Another one is having a drink with a neighbor boat at the end of the day. He says, "Even as we're sitting here, something on this boat is getting ready to fail". I see the humor in this more than the fatalism.

And lifestyle.
Easily the best investment in happiness and time we could ever have made.

True but.......
"Everything in your house is broken. You just don't know it yet."
"Everything on your car is broken. You just don't know it yet."
"Everything on your body is broken. You just don't know it yet."

The last one is very important, get out and live some life with the one you love while you still can.

On your last breath, will you think of money spent/saved or memories made?

On your last breath, will you think of money spent/saved or memories made?

I once heard a guy on NPR talking about his childhood: His parents were constantly saving to remodel the bathrooms, but every time the fund got to a few thousand, his dad would charter a sailboat and take the family out for a couple weeks. He muses: "Do you think I would have fond memories of what a great bathroom we had...?"

A friend in the PNW recently posted a FB picture of his Nordic 37 in Friday Harbor shortly after splashing from a routine haulout. He was bragging a bit about having the boat in tip-top condition. I replied with the “you just don’t know it yet” quote. The next day his wife told me the impeller failed 10 minutes out of the harbor.

Can we spell “karma”? :D

Last November we got to the boat to go deer hunting for a couple of days. Hit starter and nothing. Batteries charged, seem Cummins relay had failed. Bypassed with short piece of wire went hunting. Lesson, there is a work around for just about anything. If it didn’t start I would have taken the RIB and gone hunting anyway.

Agreed. It is interesting the parts of NC (and to a lesser extent, SC) Bess & I have seen and experienced since getting into yachting. Towns and places we never would have thought to visit by car. Stimulating the old grey matter, ya' know?

I've always said that if you think about boating mostly from the financial aspects of it, then you are missing the real point of being a boat owner.

I’ve got to work on mine this afternoon after work (failed pressure water) but man I’m looking forward to it. If I had to scrap and paint windows on the house, not so much .

I couldn't agree more. Money is just a tool to help you get things. It CAN'T buy you time or happiness. In the last 10 years of boating I have shared so many memories with my family and friends. Our lives are so much richer because of boating. Now, what is the next project on the list?...:lol::lol:

Cheers, Bill
