My new Rocna 25kg

Nice! I just got a new 20 kg Vulcan. Got a good boat show deal. Still waiting for Steveston Marine to ship it though so have no idea yet how it will fit my pulpit and roller.

Yes, i got it from Vancouver. I hope they hold up to all the hype. But the fit is good on my bow. I would like a few inches smaller to able to but a swivel on it. Right now it just has enoigj room for a shackle.

I have used a Rockna (77lb) for the past two years in Alaska and Northern BC and love it! It has never not stuck, in fact with a small breeze it will set itself!! We have an all chain rode with NO swivel. Rockna recommends no swivel.

WESTERLY has been equipped with a 20kg (44lb) Rocna for the past 3 years, a Delta 44lb for 16 years before that, then all Danforths going back to the Fifty's.

I need to say that the Danforths provided very good anchoring service for many years, after a significant amount of experience to learn their limitations in our local harbors.

The Delta was an order-of-magnitude improvement over the Danforths in all phases of anchoring, and had fewer limitations.

The Rocna was/is an order-of-magnitude improvement over the Delta, setting almost without fail, and providing much comfort at night.

That helps quantify the difference. We currently use a Delta. It has worked well for us but we hear good things about the fast setting Rocna.

Sekali, what anchor did your new one replace? why was the old anchor inadequate? and what types of water bottoms do you anchor?

I think you'll find that anchor does very well. Don't worry about the swivel. General feeling is, (born out by personal experience of many), that swivels are only another thing to cause trouble. Just try to make sure the chain links are orientated in line, with no twists, between the capstan/gypsy and the anchor when it is in the correct retrieval position, and you'll find it comes up the right way 9 times out of 10. Works best if the end roller has a central groove of course. Most do.

It replaced a home made stainless steel anchor plow type.

re: fitting your pulpit & bow roller. You can download a paper template from ROCNA website for both ROCNA & VULCAN. Glue to cardboard or plywood to see how it will fit. VULCAN was perfect for my GB36 & set & held well in anything but thick weeds. As per Steve's (SV Panope) vids. If you don't get a good set right away, retrieve & clean the flukes.

My Vulcan has yet to "fail" in the PNW anchorages we frequent.

ASD, I went with a robust swivel after trying with shackle only. The rode was twisting too much and final positioning as anchor arrived at bow roller made much easier.

I've had a traditional Rocna for several years. I've also had a Manson Supreme for many years as well. Last year was my first year with the Rocna Vulcan. I personally insist that one of these be my primary bower. All have performed very well for me so far.

I didn't move an inch on the Rocna vulcan in 40 kt sustained winds (gusts higher) while sitting out a tropical storm last summer.

I would like to add a swivel but i dont have enough room between the end of the shank and the gypsy

Mine does come up a 1/4 turn off once in a while and I have to turn it. Rockna recommends no swivel.....

I will give it a few trial runs and if it comes up as it should i will not put a swivel on. I guess im just use to having one on my old anchor

In your picture the boat hull looks very very much like an Albin.

Its make is a north sea ( marine trader)

We have a Rocna 33 (73#) on Blue Sky (35,000#Nordic Tug 42) and have cruised for 5 faultless years with it. Blue Sky came to us with a badly bent claw that was quickly dispensed with; we also replaced the 400' of corroded 3/8'" chain with new, again 400'.

Our previous experience with Rocna had been on a 12,000# Ennos Sapphire; we put a Rocna 15 on it (can't remember the weight, but probably around 35#).

The Ennos came with a Danforth which was okay, but over the years prior to the Ennos we'd experienced more dragging and fouled Danforths than I care to remember.

Our first Rocna was one of the much disparaged early Chinese versions but we never had a hint of a problem with it.

Both Rocnas we've owned have set phenomenally well and have never dragged.

Our cruising area is primarily Desolation Sound and the Broughtons.

I have 300 ft of 3/8" chain looking to put on 400 ft. Just called today to get some prices on chain. Should here back tomorrow.

I had a Vulcan on my President 385 Sundeck. Great anchor, sets within a few metres. Attention that you don't go too fast backwards otherwise you will find yourself with no windlass.
