Free beer............

Hopefully the title got your attention, and yes, FREE BEER is being offered in exchange for talking to two newbies about your experiences in living aboard.

We are coming over to Florida next Monday for three weeks boat shopping, we have a nice collection of boats to look at and will be driving all over Florida to look at them.

It would be nice to talk to others about all the mundane everyday things that are different on a boat, we have a pretty busy schedule planned but would like to see if we can share a beer and a chat with some like minded folk.

We have a Lake House on Lake June in Placid lakes rented for the first week and will be travelling from Key Largo and up to Palm Coast so will be all over the place. Or come and sit by the lake if you are closeby...

If there is anyone from the UK about it would be nice to chat about Insurance, registration, etc, etc, as the info for visitors that is available online is very contradictory....!!

Or if you just fancy a chat and a beer with a couple with funny accents, please get in touch....

Personally can't stand the stuff.... warm beer....

Mr. H. Not to cast aspersions on some of your fellow counterman's strange, by NA standards, habit of drinking warm "suds" I thought it necessary to, at least, mention the practice. It is said this came about due to the fact that Lucas (Prince of darkness, as known in automotive circles-please see link below) made all of your refrigeration equipment. An interesting "tidbit" that some of our NA members might not be aware of.

I wish you well in your endeavors. I truly think you folks have the BEST approach and attitude regarding boat shopping. It's fun AND enjoyable. By all means, make it a working vacation. You get to look over a variety of vessels, enjoy (hopefully) some warmer weather and spend some quality time with the Mrs.

We may be in Ft. Lauderdale during your visit and although NOT live aboards would welcome a visit.

Lucas, Prince of Darkness

"Warm" is (I think) "cellar temperature" and IIRC that's supposed to be about 58F. Many of the ales aren't really as good when they're too cold.

Budweiser or some such, really cold is better. Brown ale, too cold begins to mask the flavor.

Back to Haylands: welcome, mate. I spent some years over on your side of the Atlantic, although not too often as far north as Yorkshire... Luckily we can sometimes get Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale around here, although mostly in bottles. Not bad, though. Sorry can't help much with your original question, at least in person; just won't be near where you're headed...

Welcome and good luck with your search. Unfortunately, we are in Louisiana, If you can make a side trip. I would even put you up on my boat.

My folks are from Ossett, so I have visited your neck of the woods many times.

Maybe, but the French, well represented in Canadian society, are also very polite,conversations usually begin with health inquiry, friendly small talk, etc.
In my experience beer is not usually served warm in the UK. They have learnt, perhaps from visiting Aussies giving free advice about beer serving temperature.

One thing you will learn is not to not offer free beer to fellow full time liveaboards/cruisers. Unless your pockets are as deep as the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Everyone learns that lesson which is why all social gatherings amongst that crowd are BYOB.

If in NC give us a shout; and yes, we will buy our own beer...

As a follow-up to RT’s post about Lucas I have a Digital Yachts AIS transponder. I had a small problem and was talking with their support in England and explained that at least this was the first British made product I ever owned that didn’t leak oil.

Real Ale (English Beer) is still served as it should be, warm. Lager (USA Beer) is served as it should be, cold. Aussie pi55 is usually poured straight down the drain....lol

The boat is to use over there....
We may get to the Carolinas if we don't like what FL has to offer...!!!!!

They were designed to leak oil as a visual check that it still has some in, you should worry when it stops leaking...!!!

Am in the Keys from Marathon to Key Largo the next few weeks if that helps.

If you come to the Carolinas perhaps I can persuade you to serve as crew. Sort of a reverse “press gang” situation. Winter cruising really is fun.

We do have some to look at near New Bern if the ones in Florida disappoint, so you never know, not sure about "crew" though I thought everyone just sat around sipping cocktails all day long....lol..!!!

She is an Assuie, and he is from London. They have done the opposite, purchased their vessel in the UK, and have traveled here. Here, meaning a stop on thier crusing adventure.
