Here's wishing you and all you love a great solstice season, with its longer days of sunlight and the promice of new life and growth this spring for you northern hemisphere types, or of mercifully cooler weather for you heat stroke suffering Aussies :thumb: :thumb:

Happy Winter Solstice to you! Gaining daylight now baby!!!!! Yee Haw!!

Happy Solstice Day!!

I look forward to this day, with its promise of longer and warmer days to come :)

The sun rose over the southeastern mountains at 9:45am and slipped behind the southwestern mountains at 3:45pm today, and gravel casts a long shadow at noon.

I can imagine how nerve wracking it must have been, tens of thousands of years ago, to watch the sun strike further back into the cave as winter set in and wonder if it would ever climb and get warm again. A real reason to celebrate when the sun started climbing higher in the sky again.

Winter Solstice...the real reason for the season ;) :D

The sun is re-born! Surely a reason to celebrate with longer days coming.

Happy winter solstice everyone. Anchorage Alaska gains 9 seconds tommow!

And a VERY Merry Christmas, Happy Hanuka, and anything else that floats your boat to all all of you!

Hi,

Almost the same here in southern Finland the sun rises to 9.37 and falls to 3.21 today even shines from the pure sky Zenit 7 ° just so small. In northern Finland, the sun will not rise on the 51st in winter, it would be a tad to live there. Do you already have a lot of snow and -C?

NBs:rolleyes:

We're probably at a lower latitude than you, but the surrounding mountains delay when the sun hits the valley floor after the "official sunrise" at the horizon.

We've had snow since early November and can get snow into late March. We've had snow in the fields around town that didn't melt away for six months straight, but we've also had mushrooms growing in lawns in January. There is no "normal" weather here!

Really great that not "normal" weather life is more interesting than always the same or predictable. I enjoyed myself for four years here and this year has also been abnormal with regard to heat the summer was colder than usual and now the beginning of winter is warmer and snow just named and last year the sea was already 10cm frozen this time now + 5C.

Found this today in the George Buehler website and had a good laugh:

Happy Winter Solstice

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best
wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all . . .

And a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically
uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted
calendar year 2017, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great, (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "AMERICA" in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishee.

...politically correct, intellectually vapid and technically incorrect in a world where facts don't matter as much as feelings. It's 2018.

Oh come on...there's more than one way to skin a cat as far as world views and cultural norms go. Open up & accept a little :D

This is my winter solstice in Florida.
