Hi all I am looking for some advice. We purchased a 1988 Defever Performance offshore cruiser about a year ago. The boat has Twin Cat 3208 TA 375, with twin disc transmissions. The boat currently has 30 inch props pitched at 26. I found 28 inch props pitched to 30 at a good used price. What kind of performance issues should I expect? Do you think it would be ok to switch or stick with what I have? Tour advice would be greatly appreciated!

Depends. Can you currently get full power from your current props?
I have same engines on my 52’ Choey Lee with 3208sT/A. My props 28” x 26”. I cannot get full rated rpm from engines. Close, but not quite.

No. I can only get a max of 2300-2400rpms. The current props are fried from electrolysis that happened before I bought the boat and they need to badly be replaced. I found a set of used props that are in good condition for a fraction of the cost.

You might get a prop shop to optimize the props to your boat. Most have a computer program, would only cost a few hundred backs to adjust pitch and or diameter if needed.
