Hello Everyone,

We are a southwest Florida couple going on 30 years in the sunshine state (originally from Long Island NY) counting down to retirement. We are hoping for a 5 year window. We are avid weekend boaters with a 20' WAC. We have spent many a long weekend camped out on our little boat and are looking forward to being able to do some longer range cruising when work is done.
For many years we were required to trailer our boat to the ramp in the early hours of the morning to be certain we got a spot in the parking lot. We are fortunate enough now to have a place on the water with the boat on the lift.
The reason we decided to join this forum (I have been lurking for a few weeks) is the members knowledge of cruising and of course trawlers.
The end goal is picking out the right trawler for us. Right now we are leaning towards a smaller trawler like a 26-32' Nordic tug, Prairie or Outer Reef. Something easy to handle by two and somewhat fuel efficient If we could keep it on a lift, even better. But we are just beginning to look.

I also hold a Captains license for up 100 gross tons with a towing endorsement which I may look into using for added adventures in my retired life as my present job has nothing to do with boats.

Welcome to the forum! I see you're from St. James city. There are a couple of us on the forum with trawlers on the Caloosahatchee river in Fort Myers. I try to escape at least once a month to Cayo Costa for a few days. Always nice to meet people from the local cruising area.

O C Diver- we spent many weekends in Pelican Bay in our little cabin boat. We used to live and put the boat in at Punta Gorda and spent the night on her, but now with the house on P.I. when we go out to Cayo we just go out for the day and return at night The boat seems to have gotten to small for us to spend the night on now that we know we came get a good night sleep at home and go out again the next day.

Art, we born and raised in Riverhead. spent 28 years there.

Both sides of my family was multi-generations tied to NY, NY and towns in South Shore LI. We'd often do summer cruise, stopping at Greenport and Dering Harbor... as well as points north on the NE coast. Ended up living in Camden/Rockport Maine, alongside Penobscot Bay. I left East Coast in early 70's. Been in SF Bay areas since 8/18/84. Lots of fun every year of fairly wild life! With, much more to come... if I get my way, which I usually do!!! LOL
 
California

We have never been to California, even though my sister lived in Half Moon Bay for many years. She now lives here in Fl, like most of my family. We have some very close friends that just moved to Sunnyvale California. We really miss them and wished they would have stayed here, they are good people. Maybe we will get a chance to visit them in the future and see some of California.

You are several years ahead of us, Capitaine R, but we hope to be on the same trajectory. Love Pine Island. My Grandparents owned a place in North Ft. Myers on the Caloosahatchee back in the 70s and that's where I got my start in boating. Someday...

Welcome aboard! We are at Gulf Harbour Marina in Ft. Myers living on our AT-34 for the winter. If the Nordic Tug 32 interests you, you should also look at our boat. We would be happy to give you a tour, after we get back down to FL (we are currently back home in the frozen north for a while).

Welcome aboard! A wise forum member said to me, “buy your last boat first”. Right Ted? Oops.

Although I am delighted with my 36 footer, I could use an extra 6 feet!.

Up until a week or two ago I had never heard of an outer reef. Now I have seen at least 4. There are two here on the island, both on the hard - one in the marina in very nice shape and one in a storage yard that needs a lot of TLC . Neither one for sale. :facepalm:

Welcome aboard from Sunny California! Sunnyvale is about 3 hours from the delta where we are....
 
We're on a 5-10 year plan ourselves. Given your size range, you might want to look at the Transpac Eagle 32. Bought ours a couple of years ago and love it for daycruising and weekends. Looking forward to longer cruises and maybe the Loop in a few years...

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. And thanks Transpac for the suggestion. Now I have another great looking boat to throw in to the mix. My wife likes the roomier walk around of the Transpac eagle. Now I have even more questions in my head to ponder.
