Hi Rosetattoo,
First moved into Everett Marina in Aug 2006. Been here ever since. It's the largest recreational marina on the West Coast (~2400 slips), which houses boats from something like 20' to north of 90' or so.
Pros:
a. Excellent, attentive staff. Well organized, open signficant hours of the day. URL has significant information regarding the Marina, rates, hours, improvements, etc.
b. Rates are on par with others in the PNW. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. both open and covered moorage available, with liveaboards allowed.
c. Facility is first rate, with locked gangways, 24/7 security, excellent dock design and repair, good fire protection, easy reserved parking. Gas dock, pumpouts, guest docks, dry storage, Travelift, DIY boatyard.
d. Marine supplies (WEST, Harbor Marine, Dunlop Supply, etc.) within walking distance. Virtually all other marine-related trades (electric, carpentry, hydraulic, etc.) are available within Everett proper, which makes it easy to maintain your boat here.
e. On-going capital improvement program well underway, including dredging. There will be significant changes in the marina in the next 5 years. YMMV if you find the changes advantageous.
f. Marina is located at the mouth of the Snohomish River. Thus, the water in the Marina is brackish. Bottom jobs seem to last something like 3-4 years around here. No clue how that'll change with the "No copper in bottom paint by 2020" edict that seems to be coming down the road.
Cons:
a. The Port of Everett, who owns the waterway and Marina, is not particularly boater-focused. Even though we Marina tenants pay the bulk of the freight to operate the Marina, the Port's focus is on "economic development for the region", which means the Port Commission is staffed by politicians, not boaters. They lack experience with what the tenants need to own, house, maintain, and use their boats, and are reluctant to provide improvements to the Marina strictly for our benefit. For instance, attempts to convince the Port Commision that the Marina needs an engine oil change facility have met with deaf ears for several years now.
b. There is little cultural content in Everett, and virtually none within walking distance of the Marina. Everett is basically a bedroom community for Boeing, and solidly blue collar. While there is a small grocery store inside Harbor Marine, and a couple of restaurants within walking distance, virtually all else requires a car to access. Town proper is about a mile and a half, uphill both ways...
Having said all that, I'm staying put for sure! I have been very content in the Everett Marina, and am pleased the Marina is here for my use and enjoyment. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Pete
