On our Mainship (just purchased this season) we have found a Delphi "Sedimenter" part number 5836B250. Unfortunately looked like previous owners took all of the parts and cartridge out, canister completely empty. I'm assuming they had a hard time replacing and just left it. I've had a hard time replacing myself even with the many cross ref part numbers. Any help suggestions? Thank you!

Post a photo of it. Also post what engine you have.

Does your Perkins have an on engine fuel filter? That unit you pictured looks similar to a Perkins on engine unit. Where did you find it?

Looks from here like a CAV , garbage , get a modern pair of filters and a switch between them , so you can run on one and swop the other.

this is the first one so located on a bulkhead, not the one attached to the engine itself

Thanks FF and that's what I assumed and told my brother I can almost guarantee its better to replace all together and upgrade but wanted to come here as a "newbie" to try to figure out what options are more guaranteed to work from others who have done this versus trial and error. Any specific suggestions?

Get a dual Racor for a primary filter. Dual would be better so you can switch while running. Ebay or Amazon is probably cheapest.

Nice photo but get the one with the clear bowl, you need to know what’s going on in there!

Delphi is one brand of filter cartridge I`ve seen used on what I call CAV type filters.
There is a glass bowl available. I don`t like those bottom drain plugs, as likely to twist off as undo. I`ve seen those cartridges branded Perkins, even got a couple left from when I had one, they go in the on engine final filters but can also be used for the inline primary filter.
A Racor replacement would be good. The cartridges will cost much more, but worth it. You need to be able to drain them regularly to see what they are catching.

Is this it?
There is no filter element. I would absolutely replace with twin RACOR 500s like in post 11 with clear bowls.

Before you rush out and buy Racor, you may want to check out Tony Athen's Seaboard Marine filters. Spin on technology is different than Racor's. Great articles on fuel filtration too. Either his site or boat diesel have some spot on info specific for your case.

How old are your tanks? Maybe a top notch cleaning is in order?

Consider Davco filter housings. Easier to change filters. Visually know when to change. No need for vacuum gauges. Used extensively in the trucking industry.

X-2 on that!
Tony's products and advice are always top notch.
I've used his filtration system for quite a few years now, and have had excellent results.

Replacing the old original filter system with a 2 Racor 500's new was one of the first upgrades we did after the secondary engine filter became restricted and we could obtain WOT. I noticed you are from Middle River also, where are you docked? David
