Moorings or dock on Connecticut coastline - 5' min

Does anyone have any recommendations of where we can moor or even dock (inexpensively) anywhere on the Connecticut coastline? We are heading up and down the Long Island Sound several times this summer. I find it very easy to find moorings for our 43' trawler on the NY side but I am really struggling to find harbours to moor in on the CT side. We'd like to be in at least 5' of water.

Portland on the Connecticut River across from Middletown, about 30 NM up from the mouth has inexpensive moorings for the season. Last year my buddy rented a mooring for his 45' trawler Portland Riverside Marina for less than $1000 for all summer, no launch service though.

Where on the CT side is convenient for you, how long a stay? Most of CT is $$$.

Hello - we have a slip at the Mystic Downtown Marina. No moorings there, just slips. It is just North of the train (swing) bridge and south of the Mystic Drawbridge. It is walking distance to (approx 2 blocks) to some amazing restaurants, shopping, park and Mystic Seaport museum. The Mystic Aquarium, Old Mystic Village and Foxwoods Casino is a short taxi ride away.

If you are looking to be on the Connecticut River try Brewers Essex Island Marina. We stayed there for a few nights. Nice place and also another great area to walk around, great restaurants and shopping. They may have moorings there. They probably are expensive though.

PS - We keep our boat in the winter at Riverside Marina in Portland. It's not really walking distance to anything. I guess it depends what you want to do.

We are at Brewers Essex and love the location. Tell us what you are looking for ? Your depth of water requirement will never be an issue. The more East you travel, the better the marinas, tourism etc....
I am not sure of your resources that say it is hard to find something. There are harbors / marinas every 5 miles along the coast. Some suggestions are Clinton, Essex, Mystic, Niantic, Noank, Stonington.

Mystic: Brewers Marina
New London, CT: New London Public Moorings
Old Saybrook: Saybrook Point Marina

Up the river in Portland there is also Yankee Boatyard. I winter there but it is a very long ride at 7 knots.
In Mystic there is also Gwenmor Marina that has a few transient slips.
And Ford's Lobster/Haring's Marine has several moorings in Noank across from the fuel dock.

Any marina or floating dock in Milford is cheap and walking distance to a fun collection of shops, bars, restaurants and all types of boat supplies and services.

If you go up the Thames River there is a fantastic and cheap marina in Norwich which can drive you to either of the large casinos. My wife loves the trip and the destination. At the mouth of the Thames is New London and Groton, naval history heaven.

Fishers Island Sound has a dozen anchorages and mooring fields as well as marinas including Noank, Mystic, Stonington. Oodles of quaint villages within a short walk.

Clinton and Westbrook both have huge marinas and vans that will take you to outlet malls, stores, and good eats.

Going up the Connecticut River takes you to Hamburg Cove and Essex, two bits of heaven. Essex is wonderful to visit, great moorings for cheap.

If you are clever with anchors you can overnight in the Thimble Islands. Legendary beauty and famous residents.

And I have barely scratched the surface. None of these places are anywhere near as expensive as Block or Newport or MV or Long Island (all which I like too)
