FWIW,

Ft. Myers Regions Southwest has 44 nonstop, with a few to Canada or Europe

Punta Gorda has 41 non stops, with a few to Canada

Tampa has 140 non stops with also a few international ones.

If one is a real road warrior and in the air every week, Tampa does have some advantages. But for real international flights one needs Miami or New York.

For "me" an airline airport would not be a consideration.

I like Orlando as a good international airport over Miami or New York.

I lived in a covered slip at St Pete Municipal 2years. Left 4 years ago. I hope they have the crime issue south of the Marina under better control. Only time I ever pulled, hope the last. I should not have been there but I was, helping a friend, of course! Funny how quickly attitudes change upon regonigition of a laser dot on the chest.
The city has a great deal going for it. I was most impressed with the 70 or so blocks of timed lights across the island with only one stop. 1st Av North and 1st Av South both one way and timed. Good food, good recreation and all you could want right there. Wonderful.
