Hi I will be installing new packing in my 1975 34 Marine Trader anyone know offhand what size packing it takes** Thanks Dom

I have a 1977 34 DC and I tried 5/16 " three rings but was to tight, shaft got hot, then used 1/4" three rings worked fine ( plain flax packing)

Screw off the end piece and see what size drill bit barely slides in to measure the size packing required.

Last time packed I had them use that Goretex teflon impregnated stuffing, and my box is almost dripless at rest now, with slow seep when running, which keeps the shaft cool. I would not use the flax stuff any more. FF would agree, I'm sure.

I ended up using 1/4 in bumble bee packing we use it in the chemical factory I work at and it is doing great with no drips and no heat
