Jeez of course no microwave! First thing I did when I got my boat was to ditch the microwave overboard (ok not overboard but removed it for god sake).

Microwaves are for heating a cup of water for tea/instant coffee or for a factory-made meal needing reheating. Microwaves hardly count as cooking in my book.

I've been thinking about getting rid of my stove /oven. Used it twice in 3 years. If it can't be nuked, grilled, or cooked in a crock pot, it probably takes more effort to prepare than it's worth.:hide:

My wife says, "if it takes more than 20 minutes, turn up the heat and stir it faster".

The most important thing is on 5th pic. Without this primary ingredient there is no hope for a good diner :)

A cooktop and a convection microwave might be a good combination. We have an LPG stove with oven, we do use the oven, plus a conventional microwave. I`ve used the microwave to reheat a slow cooked home made casserole, it doesn`t have to be a factory product.
Right on about the essentials in pic 5, and it`s not the butter cookies:), tasty as they may be.

Don't forget popcorn! !

Don't forget popcorn! !

Microwave popcorn is the pits. Better to use a stove top with some oil and corn in a pot, then dumped in a paper bag, adding salt and melted butter coming from leftover heat from the pot.

What he said!!!

Ours is gone also, made room for wine rack. Also have another 110 vac outlet available...:dance:

Ok. So Bruce wants the meal described.

First, really basic but excellent quality stabler chicken breasts on the grill. No fuss no frillz. Perfectly grilled by Hiz Highness.

Second, a big tangle of zucchini noodles from zucc's straight from a fellow AT owner's garden. Sautéed onions in a glug of olive oil, addd some grape tomatoes, then about five cloves of garlic, chopped. Then added the zucchini noodles and and a big 'ol pile of baby spinach. Tossed in a big handful of fresh chopped basil and mint. Then salt & pepper. Finished with a big pile of Bulgarian sheep's milk feta and some delicious crumbled bacon.

Third, pour red wine.

Fourth, eat.

Fifth, eat a box of butter cookies.

Sincerely think the red wine deserves more than a single line in the recipe. How come a zucchini can be mentioned 3 times but the red wine only once. Looks like a real unbalanced recipe lol

Okay, nobody has asked. In frame 3 there appears to be a animal of some sort.
I get chicken breast but I don't get what is on frame 3 aluminum foil. :hide:

By the way, It was thought that a micro wave was a necessity on our boat. It is, I store bread in it!!! Should dump it as we don't use as intended.

My bride loves leftovers.

Cook once, eat for a couple of days.

The radar oven allows re heating with little effort, perfect!

In the past living aboard the Dickinson oven was hot for 4-6 months , so baking was reserved for cold weather.

I love cooking on my boat. After a new stove and fridge, a new micro/convection will replace the old micro only. I wanna bake cookies and stuff! LOL!

There's some really good microwave popcorn available, you just have to look for it. Just get the "natural" stuff with no flavorings and low/no sodium... season to taste. Even Food Lion has it.

Our boat had a full sized kitchen on it (that is, all normal home appliances). as we loved to cook and Ann is an excellent chef. Most cooking done on the stove top, conventional oven and gas grill. The microwave got used for her morning tea water, popcorn, some vegetable dishes and re-heating leftovers. Not an optional item for the likes of us.

I spent some time in culinary arts programs when I was young, and a stretch cooking my way through high school and college. I use primarily stove top and pans, however the grill is a key tool on the boat. Our last boat the microwave was removed for 10 years. The new boat has a microwave that I've used 2 times. Once to reheat some cooked bacon (no room on the stove at the time), and once to heat a cup of water for the admirals tea.

I have a suggestion for heating water for tea, oatmeal, etc: an electric tea kettle. Mine is by UtiliTea. Amazingly fast - like 60 seconds for 4 cups, auto shut off, with multiple water temp settings. (Different teas prefer different temps). Water stays hot for a long time. The pot lifts right off the base, so carry it to the bridge, aft deck, flybridge...and its very stable. Nice.

I was at a friend's beach house and it was all friends and a community breakfast. I grabbed bacon duty and was headed for the microwave. About half of the people there had no clue you could cook bacon in a microwave and were quite skeptical. So my buddy challenged me to a bacon cooking duel. The great bacon cookoff of 2004!!! He cooked half on the stove...me in the MW. When it was all said and done...the MW bacon turned out evenly cooked and perfectly crisp. And of course the stove top bacon was raw and flaccid in places and burnt in others. So the MW bacon took top honors as rewarded by the non believers!!!

The word flaccid next to bacon...
That is simply wrong! We do bacon on the grill and sometimes in the oven.
It is awesome both ways and never flaccid...

I have to agree with you. But if you are looking for an excuse to keep your microwave then popcorn is one.

Looks similar to a frozen Stoufers dinner I cooked in my microwave a while back...

Green Tea Kettle from Adagio Teas

Those are great but the ones I've seen, including our Hamilton Beach, take as much power as a microwave.

The silence is deafening! I was just kidding, Bruce. World, forgive me. It's the internet!

I simply did not want to say disparaging things about your choice of food...:angel::eek:
No harm done!
It did make me smile btw...

Wow, Fred! "Radar oven" - that takes me back to the days of Amana's for 500 USD - when a new Corvette could be had for $4K. Love it.
