IF the gasket is being replaced because it blew out you should consider the head mating surface.

At the local big glass replacement shop you should be able to purchase a scrap piece of thick plate glass.

They will cut a sq ft from a scrap piece and round the corners so you don't get cut for low bucks.

A sheet of fine emery on the glass will allow you to surface the gasket contact area to flat and smooth.

This is an old motorcycle trick that works as well on small noisemaker heads,outboard engines ,,,
