Conserving money as a higher priority than aesthetics.

May well be living on food stamps.

Been there. . .

Greetings,
Mr. RC. "What is this guy thinking??" Maybe, "I've got leaks I can't afford to fix right now and I want to go boating". I admit it IS somewhat unsightly but he/she/they are on the water living life.

Matthew 7:1 At least in this case...

Liveaboard that will eventually sink with no accountability - that's what that is.

:iagree:

That is the sort of thing that has people in Florida wanting to ban anchoring. Would you want to sit out on your deck with friends and look at that boat day after day?

Really?

Some people just don't care. The owner of this boat is one of those people.

Yes lets start Shoreline HOAs to make sure everything is pretty for the buyers of developments destroying the shorelines. Jeez Louise snobbish much?

Greetings,
Mr. WK. Hey, lighten up please. How about expanding your circle of boating friends to include those with less than pristine vessels. You might just meet some really nice people. I refer you back to post #6.

Greetings,
Mr. WK. "Some people just don't care. The owner of this boat is one of those people." How can I read anything other than what it states?

OK, what is untrue about that statement? Or the one about anchoring long term in Florida.

Personally, I wouldn't want to have to look at that boat every day. That is my opinion and it is my right to have that opinion. If you don't agree or don't like that I feel that way, that's fine. Oh well.

Quick to throw rocks around here. Maybe they lost their job and have nowhere else to go. It can happen to anyone at anytime.

My take on this. There will be a lot more of this as population grows and disparity of income increases. There are other places in the world where large populations have turned to the water.

Like a few others here. I am fortunate enough to live right on the water. I use the word fortunate very seriously, right along side of the word blessed, and lucky.

As a homeowner it really angers me when my neighbors stick their noses up in the air at folks that have not been so lucky in life, or (and this is often the case) choose not to devote the resources "they" deem appropriate spoiling "their" view.

I have a neighbor who for 15 years putted around our lake in a old, yes kinda beat up pontoon boat. Then two years ago he sold the pontoon boat to his next door neighbor, after having bought a new spiffy pontoon boat.

This spring his wife, went to the neighbor with the older pontoon boat and requested that he remove it from his dock because it was tarnishing her view of the water.

This kind of thing is exactly what some posts in this thread remind me of.

Unbelievable!

If she'd shown up with a nice shiny one and offered (with grace and tact) to trade, now that would be reasonable. . .

There's more...

One saturday morning I'm mowing my lawn and a neighbor (from clear across way, maybe a half mile away) pulls up to my dock and waves me over...

He tells me that he didn't buy a second home on the water to hear lawn mowers on a Saturday morning.

That guy got the big FU.

Most people are great, it's the stuck in the air ones that piss me off

I wouldn't even waste the energy getting aggro, just smile, good luck with that, wave have a nice day. . .

Pretty amazing, I boat near some really affluent towns in NJ......and being the assistance tower in the area....meet all kinds.

And it really is all kinds..... richie rich and poor with a cchip on their shoulder......

Nice to know that the vast majority from one end of the spectrum to the other are really just pretty good people.

Thats the thing. We do not fit in with that crowd. Lakes tend to "become popular" with the really affluent types. Thats how my lake is becoming.

We bought over 20 years ago when it was mostly what we call "cabins". Our house is one of three or four that were the "original" homes. My place was built in the 70's and was brought over on a barge, before the road was built.

Decades later, while it s a nice place, it is not on the level of the McMansions that seem to keep springing up along the shoreline. With these places is a different sort of people. The kind that when you putt by on your pontoon boat they dont wave. Didnt used to be like that.

Lots of different people here on TF.

From yacht club spiff to hippie green.

Going here this weekend Lady Smith BC

Eviction notices issued to boats in Ladysmith’s ‘Dogpatch’ - BC | Globalnews.ca

I love looking at some of these derelict boats and what people have done to make them livable. You have to admire them as they maybe less fortunate but they like their privacy and they are not hurting anyone.

I have talked to many of them in the past at LS and there really nice people

If they are livable, they aren't derelict, yet. Ugly is one thing, but unless they are being illegally operated, a risk to navigation or the environment, or unsafe for the occupants, then it is just another ugly boat on the water that is none of my business.

Derelict and abandoned boats are a real problem in Puget Sound and it is costing the rest of money every time we renew our registration.
