Pairadice and ASD have met their northern goal of Skagway! Guess what? The sun is out!!! We used the ferry for the last section due to marina space and high winds that frequent the area. 20170618_143326.jpg20170618_141735.jpg

John, we're in Shearwater for a couple days and will be in Ketchikan in about a week, weather permitting. I'll be looking for you guys on AIS when we get to SE. Most of our time in July and August will be on the west side of Prince of Wales chasing fish although we may head up to Sitka too. Your pictures are great.

Well Pairadice instruted me on the fine uses of bbq. So I bought a weber and a table. It would seem no one wants a free, slightly used quality magma grill.

Happy summer solstice everyone. We start losing daylight tomorrow.

:( I always get a bit sad at that. I enjoy the long days. Not as long as what you are experiencing now, but still long. Last night sunset was at 9:10 where I am. That means it is light enough to do things outside until 10pm.

Call me crazy - I look forward to wild winter weather, snow, and 16 hours nights which mean soft 'dusk' light all day. The extremes we experience on BC's north coast are responsible for the rich environment I love so much.

Up here the sunset is at 11:30, and sun rise is 4:15. Evening twilight ends at the same time morning twilight begins. In other words, it never gets dark.

Wifey B: Ok, since you insist, Crazy Murray.

Wifey B: It sure was convenient on our Alaska cruise. We wanted to cruise only in daylight. However, with sunset at 10:00 and sunrise at 4:00 and light an hour after sunset and an hour before sunrise it meant between 18 and 20 hours of possible cruising. :D

Biggest problem was sleep schedule. We're conditioned not to even think about sleep until after dark. We also are conditioned to wake as the sun rises. You're enjoying the scenery so much, looking out on everything so beautiful, and the sun starts to set. You watch that. Then you decide to go inside the boat and watch a little tv perhaps until it hits you that it's nearly midnight. That and the fact you're planning on leaving at 4:00 AM.

I just can't imagine the short days of winter. I'd end up with SAD and it rhymes with MAD and that stands for no sun.

Awesome day on the water. I did see an AIS hit that surprised me. Yep Morning Star fixing to enter Lynn Canal about 10 miles ahead of us!!

Lynn Canal??? I know you used the ferry up and back, what the heck are you doing back in Lynn Canal.

Our of good grace and commonality for your neminis 'Morning Star" extending a invite to one of your 'Beer Times' with crab or better, a top sirloin steak on that new burner an outstanding example of seafaring commorady. :flowers::hide:

TT,

I have always said that sunset and sunrise are the same event on June 21 and Dec 21. Hope to see you sometime this summer before you head south.

Tom

We have been anchored in front of the Harriman glacier for the past two days. Kayaking through the ice this AM, and occasional chunks of ice the size of a house come crashing down.

If when you walk the streets of Hoonah:smitten: and see fellows about your age or so, as them if they had longshored and knew old Al Johnson. As I tell the wife, I ask everybody to keep an eye out, there may be kids who look like me.:rofl::D
As I had said before, the folks in Hoonah are just the best of the Native community as you will find. Good folk, hard workers.

Enjoy, Fredrick Sound is about the best, kings, crab, shrimp, trout, moose, deer, bear, ducks, just a garden of food and such. Notice the ground, it is glacier and grows veggies well where planted. Cotten wood trees all over and smell so good in season.
Miss the place, spent 10 years in and out monthly in Hoonah Supercargoing on log ships.:flowers:

Tom/John. If you have cause to speak to the Harbor Mistress, a member of the Mills family. Ask to Tom, her brother, health on my behalf. better yet, obtain a phone # or a address for Tom MIlls. My walking boss and one smart cookie. we have lost contact with each other and your being there is perhaps a blessing for reigniting the relationship. Let me add the other brother Jeff, he may be in Hoonah. Okay, one more, Archie Brown. if you would.
Regards,
Al

Will do Al, the least we can do on your behalf.

Cheers, John

Well, now I know why the Monkey Shoulder is hard to come by -- Tom, you have Montana's allotted ration on your boat!.. Crusty, remember: "THE LIVER IS EVIL, AND MUST BE PUNISHED!!"

Halibut

The Admiral set the hook on her first Halibut. Then handed me the pole, you can fill in the blanks.
