We're on Pickwick Lake on our way to Nashville. I had to replace the Spectra cable on my davit, and now I need to splice a loop in the end of the new cable. My sailing days are far behind me, and besides I never did get the hang of splicing braid.

Does anyone know of someone in the area that could do the splice?

Many thanks.

Paul

Paul: When we replaced the wire on our davit with dyneema, I watched several YouTube videos on how to splice th stuff. Some of the easiest line to splice I've ever worked with. My biggest problem was I didn't have a small enough fid so I had to buy one. If you can't find anyone local to help you out, here's a pretty good how to video.

That looks really easy.

Paul, As Larry mentioned, splicing dyneema is simple. MUCH easier than double braid. You don't need any special tools other than a very sharp knife. To pull the dyneema through you can just grab any small diameter wire, bend it, and use it to grab and pull.

Premium Ropes has some videos here on how to do it. If your line is on the winch then you would use the technique for an eye splice when one end is attached.
