Very long story short, we went and looked at a boat and loved it. Our offer was accepted and of course its pending survey.

We live in Charlotte and this boat is in Charleston. We decided to make a little vacation out of it. We dropped our 3 yr old little girl off with my parents, flew a small plane into Charleston the day before then saw the boat the following day. It. Was. Awesome. Anxious for the results of the survey to come back. If he finds a deal breaker, no worries, it wasn't time waisted.

I'll let the pics and videos do the talking.

Loading up.

Approach to Charleston Executive.

Bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with crab cake....yes they were absolutely amazing, yes they were pretty much a full meal.

The real dinner a couple of hours later.

Again, unreal.

Rooftop bar

The next morning, we finally got to see the boat we've been looking at online for weeks. It blew us away. It was bigger and cleaner than we were expecting.

A couple of videos...

That afternoon we flew home.

The light house just north of folly.

My wife is a trooper. We avoided all of the clouds down and back...except one. I thought it would be fun to punch through at lest one ?

Hopefully the survey comes back clean enough! If not I can't wait for more opportunities to see other boats.

Very nice.

Yes the process can be fun - though sometimes very frustrating - mainly because of broker games.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Self built experimental plane?

Hope you get a good survey report. It's a nice looking boat that should be a great lake get-a-way! :)

Thanks! Fortunately this broker is really great so far.

It is a homebuilt. Not by us though. I don't have the patience for something like that.

Is this the sight unseen offer boat?

It sure is. Our original offer wasn't accepted. We then waited to see the boat before putting another offer in. Our 2nd was accepted.

The boat turned out to be cleaner than we were expecting.

You going to keep both flying and boating?

If so you should buy a horse, then you will have all three of the most expensive hobbies! :)

Haha I thought you were going to say having a wife is the 3rd.

Yeah I'm never giving up aviation. That's actually my dad's plane, we share expenses. It's the exact opposite of the boat. Small, fast and effecient. 180 MPH while getting about 20 MPG over the ground (depending on wind).

We plan to commute back and forth to the coast in it. Sure beats driving 4 hours! We'll save the driving for when we bring our daughter with us.

Not fast or efficient, but maybe time to buy a C172. :)

Too boring! Maybe someday a Cessna 195. I've loved that plane since I first saw one when I was little.

Congrats for the boat, looks nice on the pics. Hopefully everything will be fine during inspection. Did you take a look at the engine room? Often a well maintained engine room is the sign that the rest of the boat is well maintained too...

Enjoy!

Yeah I did. I thought it was really clean.

The batteries are new. Both AC units were recently replaced along with the fridge.

Good looking boat, plane and family. You are living the dream. Enjoy it.

Gotta love it when a plan comes together. Love the RV6.

Love the plane.

Mild adult ADD keeps me from chasing that dream(couldn't pass the medical/taking Adderall).

When sport pilot planes become more popular/cheaper. I may revisit the issue.

Steve,

Was this the sight unseen $30K boat? Sure looks pretty good. Love the layout, stairs not ladders, and the bow access from the flybridge.... handy. What kind of boat is it?

Sounds like you have a good plan. I like flying to the boat, if you can't have it in your back yard. And it allows to easily try different ports. I've had a few friends that do that. I did that with a boat and car in the Keys for many years and worked well.

It's also nice to see aviator/boater types. Sometimes its hard to go from 3 miles a minute to 7 minutes a mile, but totally different missions. The plane is often the means to the end, and the boat is the end.

Access via bridge to front deck makes me thing the boat brand may be Bayliner. Am I correct??

You guys have beautiful life style.... enjoy! :thumb:

Its a Mainship 31 Sedan Bridge. Those boats have the most space of any 31 foot boat. I really like them. Easy access to bridge and bow. Decent gpnm if you watch the throttle a little. The OP did good! JC

David Pascoe doesn't like them.... but he doesn't like most boats. I love the layout.

I read his article. Its not like the Mainship was designed to round Cape Horn. Its a Coastal Cruiser and for that purpose it will be very good. JC

IMO, David Pascoe has some good articles and some not so good ones. This Mainship looks like a peach!

Totally agree. I've seen his beat down every boat I've owned, SeaRay (several) Formula, Glaston, etc., and everyone has served me well. No lemons. And they all have their goods and bads.

I like my current Mainship. It's not a high end, expensive world class boat, but perfect for the mission.

The OPs boat looks like it will be great for his mission.

Thanks everyone! We're really excited.

Very nice! You did well!

Closing on Thursday!!!!
