I have never owned one before and am thinking of getting one. I know they will run around 4 boat units - definitely not cheap.

They work great in sea water where it is relatively chemical free but what about rivers, bays and lakes? I know that most watermakers will filter out bacteria, viruses, etc., but what about chemicals? Is that a problem with inland waterways?

Never Mind.....I called tech support for Pure Water. They can only be used in open water. Chemicals can not be filtered out, in fact, oil and other hydrocarbons will destroy the filters.

Well, you can forget about using it in the Gulf around Louisiana! No shortage of hydrocarbons here!

*Tell me about it. I work offshore from time to time. I fly out of Houma. Flying over it is just as ugly as being on it. I wont even buy bottled water in La.
