It is a pack of strip light channels that you mount on the ceiling and then stick strip LED lights in the bottom of the channel then install the defuser.
If you use waterproof strip lights, that will make them more durable. You don't have to use the controller or remote control and can be switch controlled.
This leaves a low profile, low power draw method to light up engine rooms and other areas.

Totally agree, it occured to me once or twice to close the hatch and forget to lights on. Another option would be to have contact switch on the hatch that would turn on the light when you open it and switch them off when you close it so you cannot do a mistake.
