Replacing my engine control.

So like mentionned in another post I started my maintenance this weekend.
On the list was to replace my 2 engine controls (mechanical single lever, dual action, one lower helm, one on flybridge) by 2 Seastar 7600 levers that I bought.
I have unscrewed my flybridge lever and looked at remove it. My stupid mind was expecting to get enough cable loose to be able to pull up the lever assembly, disconnect the cables and remove it.
I found out that I am foolish and there is not enough cable loose.
So my question here.
I guess that I need to disconnect the cable from the part below that receive cables from flybridge and lower helm (don't know how to name it, like a cable switch with the two pair connected), than disconnect the old flybridge lever, connect the new one, and reconnect the cable down under.
Am I correct or totally lost?

Take a hard look at the entirety of the cable run. Very common to find wire tyes anchoring the cables down to all kinds of stuff.

Don't the new controls deserve new cables?
Even if they are moving fine, the cable core gets stretched out, and the housing gets compressed over time, making adjustments a pain.

I checked the control cables and they are in very good shape. I have too many things to tackle right now to jump in changing the cables all the way. I am replacing the flybridge control because the handle was almost broken.

I found the name of the part I was talking about. It is a transfer unit where cables from upper and lower helm are connected. cable to the engine are going from this transfer unit to the engine. In other words the transfer unit receive 2 pair of cable in and have one pair out to the engine.
