Two years ago, I stripped my bottom, put on 3 coats of barrier coat and 2 coats of Pettit Hydrocoat. I just hauled out and the bottom is still really nice. The boatyard guy said he'd just put her back for another year. But I was hoping to not haul for another 2 years. I'm thinking of just putting one more coat on? Do I have to sand first? I know the answer is not the answer I want to hear....

Hydrocoat is an ablative paint. Usually just pressure wash it clean and then add another coat of paint. That is one advantage to an ablative vs traditional hard paint.
 
I never sand ablatives when adding another coat.

I am always amused when a boatyard worker can tell how much life is left in anti fouling paint simply by looking at it.
