A day's trip from Thorne?

Most places mentioned are a days run from Thorne. Could'nt find Whale Penis on my maps but I do think it's a village on the coast. Of course it's a weed to all else but a flower to me. I also like Skunk Cabbage, Dandylions and the smell of gasoline. Trip was very good except all the crab pot floats in all the anchorages and the wrong depth at the head of Bradfield Canal. Biggest wave we saw was 15". Wer'e going to Ketchikan Tuesday and I hear mostly 5' seas and 25-30 knot winds. As usual but far from always the forecast is the worst in the area*** ....and that would probably be Camano Point. Always get wupped there.

I think it's kind of a wild west town myself but frequently Thorne Bay is too. Ketchikan seems rather civilized and of course it seems like a huge city to us. There's a lot of energy in Wrangell and very friendly. So is Petersburg.

Not sure how I missed these pics but they are truly beautiful- God did a great work with the scenery in your neck of the woods!!

Last time I was in Wrangell, it was the 4th of July celebration.

The whole town turned out for the parade, and the "marching band" started it out.* A squad of locals carried battery powered boom boxes* (volume at max) on their shoulders, and the only radio station in town played marching music.

It worked so well, they turned around and came back through for a second trip!

The 4th is a bigger event in Alaska. Biggest period in western Alaska. Big drinkers start 2 weeks before the 4th and don't remember anything till 2 weeks after. Most are moderate drinkers and sometimes remember the 4th.

I hit Yakutat on July 3rd one summer expecting to get fuel and keep going. Party had already started and I did not get fuel until July 6th. Had a good time. Nothing like being forced to party.
