1980 gulf star 44 fuel tank question

Hi all. First of probably many questions that will be coming. I have a few questions regarding the fuel tank

1. It seems that the tank follows the contour of the hull and is not square. Correct?

2. Based on the above comment being correct. Can anyone give me an idea when I stick the tank what the various gallons in the tank would be based on the level on the stick?

3. I would really like to get into the tank to do some thorough cleaning and scraping of the bottom. Any other access panels aside from the one that all the output and return lines go into? If not has anyone attempted to remove this panel and how difficult was it? I see there are screws to remove it but they all appear to be glassed over a bit.

I have a folding metal stick that has gallon marks on it. I can convert the marks to inches for you and will do so in the next couple of days.

I don't have a Gulfstar... BUT... You are going to have to do your own math based on your tank size and shape. Mine is 7.06 gallons per inch per tank. But if you need any ideas dipsticks, I did a thread on them a while back:

As for cleaning, look up a professional tank cleaner (NOT A FUEL SCRUBBER) in your area. he might be able to do it without an access panel. I had access panels on this thread, but the same guy did a great job on our new boat just thru the filler cap. However, we were on the hard and he was able to use the travel lift to tip the boat around to get our new tanks equally as clean.

LOL. You mean that metal folding stick thing that I threw away while cleaning all the junk out of the boat. LOL. I didn't see any marks on the thing. If you could send me the inch marks I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks tomb. But these tanks are irregularly shaped so sort of impossible to come up with the math. If it were perfect round or rectangle I could but they are like a wine glass. Thanks for the tips on the stick and tank cleaning. I will be looking into it.

Mine are fiberglass molded right into the shape off the hull
