Can anyone point me towards a mechanic or a company that works on Ford Lehman's on the Northern Gulf Coast? I'm in Pensacola and I can't find anyone that does this work.

I cant see why you need a specialist to work on Ford Lehman's /Perkins that's the beauty of owning there's motors

What's wrong with the engine? Are you looking for a new thermostat or a complete rebuild? It's a simple engine and things like gaskets are readily available. Major castings might be a problem. Any diesel mechanic should be able to do most repairs.

I'm just looking for someone who can do "general" work on the engine as the need arises. So far I have had four of the major companies in this area tell me they can't work on Ford Lehmans, which I don't get.

Yeah that doesn't make sense. As has been mentioned any decent diesel mechanical should be able to work on a Lehman. Perhaps the folks you spoke to don't WANT to work on them, that's different. Of course that doesn't solve your problem. Perhaps a call to American Diesel for a referral?

Try an independent that isn't a dealer for a brand or brands....

A Lehman is nothing like a modern diesel requiring anything more than good diesel mechanic skills.

Are there any Ford Lehman models that should be avoided or have issues, or are they all the same ? Any turbos ? How close to a Perkins are they ?

They have nothing to do with Perkins, they are Ford.

Thanks, that is interesting,,,,, seems to be several folks on here that think they are the same. Guess since they are both inline sixes.

Greetings,
Mr. a. I have never noticed anyone who thought that Perkins and Lehmans were the same other than as you mention that they are both in line 6's. Also, as has been noted, any competent diesel mechanic should be able to service both Lehmans and Perkins. Aside from the mechanical differences, Perkins are blue and Lehmans are red. Personally I prefer the red ones.

Lol, Yeah old school sixes, no tier anything. Just plain ole high compression big iron engines. Now there are are some Perkins accessories ( like pumps, manifolds and any other marinization part) which do in fact differentiate the two. Mostly in a $$$$ way

To the OP- Check with dockmasters at marinas in your area. The know who the local independent mechanics are, and which ones are good.

A competent diesel mechanic who says he can`t work on a Lehman either doesn`t want to, or is deluded. Parts are available, the engines are simple. In fact the beauty of them is anyone can work on them.
