Onan 20Kw diesel w/Racor 2010....what it typical element micron size ?

You could use 30, 10 or 2 with likely no noticeable difference. I use 10's or 30's depending on my mood.

I'm using 30u on our 12 year old Westerbeke primary, the builder says same. 10u would do fine too.

its going to vary greatly depending on mfg and fuel system.

for most cats. we run a 30m. primary and a 2m. secondary. when you see common rail fuel systems they will typically have more filters inline and smaller micron sizes. old pc nozzle fuel system are a lot more forgiving of dirt than the new high psi common rail stuff is.

Is there an engine mount filter as well?

If so I'd use a 10.
Yes...a strange looking rectangular box with in and out holes that slide over in and out tubes, and then secured by snap springs.

What if I'm in the "mood" for a 30 ? ;-)

I use a 10 on my Northern Lights which has an on-engine secondary of about 4.

You can use what ever you want.

I like to stop as much contamination as I can before it gets to the engine mounted filter.

I also prefer a larger element filter before the engine mounted one on a genset so I can use a 2 mic element without worrying about it clogging up prematurely.

But that's just me.
