Was considering doing Canada in 2017 when I do the Great Loop. When I heard about the anniversary, thought the waterways, parks, and marinas might be crowded. With all this free stuff, there's no doubt. Wish Canada all the best on their anniversary. Think I will go when it will be less crowded.

Overcrowded waterways during Canada celebrations

Hello Ted!

I do understand your concerns of the possibilities of overcrowding waterways.

May I thank you for your kind wish! As you probably know, Ted, Syracuse, NY will in 2017 hold the world-class Canalways Conference... 200 years in the making.

May I convey my congratulations to you and to all, for the bicentennial of the Erie Canal and I hope that you may enjoy endless celebrations in the exploration of Central New York!

Season's greetings and all the best to you and family!

Kindest regards, Normand

We hope to make the Chesapeake-NYC-Troy-Oswego-Kingston-Ottawa-Montreal-Sorel-and-back-home loop this summer. (Presuming we get Revel's engines in trustworthy shape.)

Parks Canada passes are/were free for 2017, I think that it might be free to tie up at buoys like at Montague? Not sure of the perks.

A free pass to the Canadian canals will still cost more than an entire summer on the NY State Canal System. Unlike the NY systems free docks are unheard of and you are certainly not going to get free wifi and laundry facilities as in NY. oh yeah, fuel is about 30% higher. Remember when the Canadian lockmasters went on strike and left hundreds of boats stranded. Wouldn't 2017 be a perfect time for a another strike!

Thanks for the heads up Normand! I cruise the BC coast so I will be looking for the parties on the west coast to celebrate!!

Is this only valid for Canadian citizens?
