Apart from using a good quality bilge cleaner does anyone know any good ideas for cleaning &keeping the bilge clean. We have just done a major service on the engines and found we had a cracked injector on the starboard engine, which meant the engine room was pretty messy, and there is a residue of oil, at least I think it is oil,*when the bilge pumps operate.

I have pressure washed the engine bay, used the raw water deck pump , tried automotive*degreasers as well as the more expensive marine bilge cleaners.I have cleaned the engines, checked for leaks(none) and still a get this small slick at the end of the bilge pump operation.

As OS says, probably the bilge pump/hose is oily.

Worst marine and others carry an absorbent pad that will collect only petroleums.

Place a couple in the bilge without any detergents and let the pads do their thing.
