Zodiac Oarlocks

The 2004 10 ft Zodiac tender that came with our boat had no oars. Do any Zodiac owners out there recognize this oarlock?
Is it a Zodiac specific part or a standard design that we should be able to obtain easily?

I would like to equip the boat with wooden oars so may look into having a machine shop modify a set of standard oarlocks with a groove to take the lock.

Meanwhile, if you see someone trying to get to shore with a silly little paddle, it's probably us. Propane outboards will probably be the next post.

I have the same one also with no oars. I purchased 2 telescopic oars from Amazon. I just keep them in the Zodiac. The don't take up any room.

Maybe there is a reason yours and mine didn't have any oars? Could it be that the oarlocks didn't work? LOL!

Could you not obtain oarlocks, (we call then rowlocks actually), made for the Zodiacs that normally have oars as well, and just have them professionally glued onto the top of each pontoon in the best place for rowing..? In fact they come as a unit, with the matching oars as well I believe, or could be obtained as such I think. However, you might have to get a shorter pair of oars for your dinghy, if it is smaller than the models that come with oars fitted.

The Zodiac oar locks appear to be proprietary. I had a hell of a time finding replacements, finally did at a consignment shop. Your best bet might be to remove the old oarlock pads and purchase new adhesive oarlock pads with the bolt / nut configuration. So much work for the unavailability of parts thru zodiac.

Here's the answer. I stopped at West Marine and picked up a pair of oarlocks on the way to visit a good friend with a lathe. In a few minutes, he modified them according to the measurements I took from the boat. They fit beautifully but don't stay locked in particularly well. I suspect the OEM ones didn't either. However, a little tension applied to the hinged latch that engages the groove seems to hold them in well and I have a couple ideas how to do that.

Others may want to get oarlocks and glue them on aft of the oarlocks that usually are found on duckies. Gotta sit in the bow of the dink w only one set of oarlocks. Far far better balance and rowing performance can be achieved w an oarlock aft of the usual. Looks like one could just stick'um on if they had the right goo and of course had the oarlock.
