Hi Folks,
New to the forum. About to pick up a 1989 Mainship Mediterranean 41' (not the grand salon). She has twin 350hp 454 crusader engines. I was wondering what the fuel burn would be on her. If anyone have a similar hull with the 454 crusaders and give insight as to the fuel burn, I am looking at 2500rpm, 3000 rpm and 3500 rpm. Any help would be GREAT!
Thanks
Bill

I have no idea...

But I'd love to guess, so...I'm going with 22gph at 3500rpm.

Another guess- more like 30 gph at 3,500 rpm.

Why? 3,500 rpm ought to be about half way down on the prop curve or 175 hp per engine, so a total of 350 hp. Gasoline engines make about 12 hp per gph, so something in the low 30s.

Thanks for the input. I don't plan on going fast, just trying to figure out the fuel burn as I have a very long journey and want to try to calculate burn. I wont have time to install the floscan before the journey.

Simply go at trawler displacement speeds sat 6.5 or 7K ( 7 or 8 statute mph) and your fuel bill will be down to under 5-6GPH.

Speed costs , but of its for a delivery , just consider the extra bucks as part of the purchase price.

Understood, She is not for delivery except by me for me to my home port. I guess the issue isn't necessarily the speed I can eek out of her, its more so the planning for the time of the trip and the stopovers. Its easier to know the fuel burn at the different speeds, to determine fuel stops, layovers and distances I can make in a day. I wish it was diesel but im stuck with the gassers.

"I wish it was diesel but im stuck with the gassers."

You wont be saying that if you have repairs or an engine replacement in your future

Carb motors 15 gph per eng at 3000. Fuel injected 12-14 gph per eng at 3000. Pretty predictable. Speed and mpg are whatever you get.

How much fuel will she carry? I had a 32' Carver with the 454's and always felt our tanks were too small for the average fuel burn usually on plane. We had to plan for a lot of fuel stops but gas was pretty darn cheap then. By the way, they were darn reliable engines

she has a single 375 gallon gas tank. I have floscan that I will be installing but wont have a chance before the long haul home. Thanks for all the good info though!

fuel burn

the floscans sho at 18kts I am burning 17gph per engine so total 34gph. I can run at 21kts and bury the floscans (24gph is max on needles) so i normally cruise between 16-18 kts
