Headed east from New Orleans this past weekend. Wound up in Gulfport Miss. after a 9 hour run. Municipal marina 1st class! Wife wants to stay through the 4th to enjoy what the Miss coast has to offer then we'll head east to Perdedo Key for awhile.

Headed to Harborwalk(local marina) for the weekend. This is the weekend of the Texas Outlaw Challenge....which is a go fast boat party/poker run/shoot out. HUGE party. One of their stops is Harborwalk so we have just kind of made this an annual thing. None of us participate but we do spectate when they come through the marina on one of their stops. It truly is a sight to behold. Luckily they are only there for a couple of hours. There is usually more "meat" in the pool than there is water.

I have watched the shootout on Friday morning. They have a piston class and a turbine class. The piston boats(catamaran) are in the 170s. Turbine boats 200++. It is pretty damn cool to watch.

A cool boat that is local to here is "The Phantom". It is a guy here that has done well for himself. The boat is a cross between a Rolls Royce Phantom with styling cues from Phantom of the Opera. Go fast boats don't do much for me. But the Phantom is pretty damn cool and it is neat that it is custom styled by the imagination of its owner. It is also about a 140mph boat.

This weekend we take our newly acquired trawler SAN-BAR, a Cheermen PT38 from Victoria Harbor to the Waubic Inn on the Severn River [located near Severn Falls]. Round trip approx 28 miles via the Port Severn Lock and world famous Big Chute Marine Railway. This will be the first overnight off the dock since bringing her home from Bay City Michigan four weeks ago.

I'm heading for Port Severn this weekend as well to start east through the waterway. Coming from Tobermorey via French River. Maybe our paths will cross on Sunday.

Al & Crusty Chief (John)...feelings are mutual on this end :thumb: :thumb:

Sunday we'll be headed back to Victoria Harbor, so it is hard not to cross paths if you make it to the bottom of the bay! Safe Travels.

Wifey B: Somewhere where people aren't wearing Cleveland Cavalier T-Shirts? Where no parade is scheduled? :) Just teasing as it's nice to see a community happy even if over a game and even if my team lost. (Actually one of my three teams was the one that lost).

As long as we're here. Yesterday. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Omfg. Wow. Wonderful. Incredible. We spent the morning there and loved every minute. We went back for the 4:00 PM hour long program of this year's inductees.

Just one more reminder of the incredible places to visit in each and every port. From the smallest local museum to the Smithsonian.

Every day of cruising we get exposed to the beauty of the water as well as the beauty of a different place. Every place is beautiful, you just have to look for it.:dance::dance::dance::dance:

I love love love love love cruising. I love life. Every day a new adventure. :)

Always love your attitude. Did you hit DC earlier in the trip? Just curious based on the Smithsonian reference (and we live in the city). My brother and his family come in this weekend. They don't want to go out on the boat, but do want to see some museums. Living here, we tend to take all the city has to offer for granted - about the only time we go to the museums is when we have friends in town.

Wifey B: No, we haven't hit DC since 2014. Time for a return trip. Maybe 2017. And only go there by water. Places like the Smithsonian we love and we give them half day visits so there's always more to return to see. It was cool going up the Potomac. We just zoomed up the coast this trip, just to get a start from NYC. Fort Lauderdale to NYC 8 days.

There are the known places, then I believe that every town has a hidden gem. :)

B&B - I think you will be very surprised next time you make it to DC. If you stayed at or near the Gangplank Marina, the entire area is undergoing a major construction project. We are finally getting our waterfront back! You should also catch a Nats game if you make it here. We'd be happy to provide suggestions and or take you around should you make it here in 2017. We won't be going anywhere for a while. :)

Wifey B: We caught a Blue Jays game this trip. Got to see the notorious hotel in Rogers Centre where shortly after it opened a couple made it on television having sex in their room. Apparently some hotel guests didn't grasp that if they could see the game, the game could see them. They are more firmly advised now. The Wharf should be beeeeeuuuuutiful when finished. :D

Currently underway for an overnight trip to Benicia Yacht Club/ marina in Benicia CA for their annual lobster feed.

July 4th weekend in Biloxi. Plenty of activities for the family with good fireworks from casinos and later individuals along the beach area. Boat docked 30' from beach! BBQ late afternoon.

Just returned from 2 nights at Angel Island and a night at China Camp. Near perfect weather and cruising conditions.

Next stop: July 4th fireworks in the warm, fresh waters of the CA Delta!!

Me too

Hate to admit it but first cruise of the summer will be the fireworks. heading out thurs.

CJ is avoiding the crazies on 4th, but then out for some fun. Up to Homosassa for scalloping on the 5th then a night in Caladesi State Park. Then nights in Gulfport, Bradenton Beach and Sarasota. Little mini cruise. If anyone is going to be out in the area the weekend after the 4th, let me know, we'd love to meet up.

Departed Cleveland yesterday with a load of salt for South Chicago. Be jealous.

Four-day trip to Catalina with my son in about four weeks. We plan to go to Cat Harbor (it's on the "back side" of the island). We'll be meeting up with a bunch of friends from yacht clubs up and down the SoCal coast. :D

That is one cool looking boat John. I wonder if they'll ever bring her over here to compete in the offshore series..? That boat I would go to see.

Wifey B: Went to Miami Beach for lunch. Yes, by boat. Haven't gotten in a car since we arrived home on Friday. Probably will tomorrow. Yesterday went to play tennis by boat. Lunch is so much better when you go there by water. :)

You'd think after nearly 2 months on a boat, we fly home, we'd be able to go a while without being on one. We're sick. We admit it. Our cars sure are low mileage though. :D

That's a cool video, Dave. 630 ft is a looong boat!

Hats off to you. What a cool job! (Sorry it involves travel to and from the mistake by the lake.)

Y'know what... I'm gonna go ahead and say it... I kinda like Cleveland. I'm not sure why, but I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the city. I've had a lot of fun there over the years. Plus it's about as close to home as I ever do crew changes, so I kinda think of it as my home port.

Wifey B: We joke about it and I definitely wouldn't like the cold winters but we enjoyed what we saw and next time through we'll return. I loved the excitement over the Cavaliers. We've liked every town and city we've been to. They all have good and bad, but people much the same. You find the good and focus on that. :)

Yeah, it's easy for a left-coasty like me to bash Cleveland. I used to go there on business, found the weather bad and the people good. Liked it better than Detroit for some reason. No burned out houses I guess.

OT: Just back from an a 3 day out and back to Port Townsend, one of my fav haunts. Went there to watch the start of the R2AK: Race to Alaska. No-motor vessels racing from Port T to Ketchican, AK. First prize: $10K. 2nd prize: a set of steak knives. A lot of well-prepped cats and trimarans, some real sketchy home builts. My ride went well, but had to change a fuel filter, not surprised. At least it didn't clog in Deception Pass! Will be cleaning up the fuel side situation before next trip.

Loving the Farrell 34, works great in Puget Sound waters. And liking iSailor, a great nav package.

Holy sh$t. Those were some narrow looking channels you were navigating that 630 ship through. Probably a dumb question, but do big ships have thrusters on the bow or stern?

Yeah, there are definitely some skinny channels around here. Cleveland is one of the skinnier ones, and as you can see, not a straight shot in the whole damn river. Fun Fact: Cuyahoga is thought to be derived from the Mohawk Indian word for 'crooked.'

As far as thrusters go, just about all Great Lakes vessels have at least a bow thruster. Some of the nicer ones have stern thrusters as well. It's not as prevalent in the ocean going ships that come here. They still use tugs a lot more than we do. Not a dumb question at all!
