The Washington State Department of Ecology (WDOE) continues to pursue a petition to the federal government to designate all of the Puget Sound and its tributaries as a No Discharge Zone, even in the face of scientific evidence that this is regulatory overkill.

If you are a Washington boater, please write. There's an easy form letter that should only take a few minutes to fill out.

And please pass along this information.

In the middle 90's we were living in Shilshoe Marina. There was a movement to get rid of all the live-aboards because the water quality standards for fecal coliform were above the State limits. A study showed that if there were no live-aboards, the area would still not be in compliance. Fortunately the regulators backed down. Hopefully they will again.
