I was having my coffee this morning, and spotted on the bottom shelf of one of my bookcases a 1939 first edition Modern Boat Building by Edwin Monk. Funny to think "modern" and 1939 at the same time.

In the chapter on building costs was this:

In the chapter on building costs was this:

If you go back to the 1750's a seagoing snow vessel built and rigged cost about 1500 pounds.

The incredible thing is many people worked for a monthly or quarterly wage of 7 pounds.
