holding Tank inspection port

I am going to intall a beckson screw type port in my holding tank to allow instalation of new vent lines* The question is* can I intrall the port on the side of the tank or do I need to pull the tank and install on the top* I certainly dont want the port to leak** Has anybody here done this?

Put it on the top of the tank. What if, God forbid, you ever had to open it when the level of tank were above the bottom of a hole in the side of it?

If small enough you could drill and tap the tank and screw in a fitting.

My holding tank has a 6" Beckson screw in cover plate on the top, both the tank and plate assembly are plastic. Every so often when I pump out*and the tank is empty I'll bring a water hose with spray nozzle down there, take the plate cover off and give the tank a good spraying then pump out the water. When I bought the boat there was a lot of crud on the inside walls and bottom, the spraying keeps it clean.

TOP , they do not seem engineered well enough to handle a constant load , esp in a plastic tank that may have wiggle walls.

I use them in our plastic water tanks and a tiny weep is hardly a problem, but FW does not stink, and carry disease..

I agree and after pulling the tank...I dont ever want to have to do this again,*** Cant imagine dealing with one that leaks** I have every thing cleaned up and the ports installed****** Had to use two as this todd tank has a center section that*has a hollow*in the top creating a large hump inside the top ot the tank roof, could not reach around it to fit vent fitting*Will reinstall today

Anybody who wants a great day of fun should do this* two showers later I can still smell it, my imagination I am sure
