I have an onan 8kw generator that I just re- built the engine on. It's all back together but I am only getting 25 volts out of each 120 leg. I was told that I need to re-excite the magnets or the regulater. Any thoughts?

25v should be enough to get exciter to build volts. Are all the connections on the transformer and rectifier and exciter stator hooked up right? Did you take apart the electrical end for the rebuild or leave it in place?

Double check the connections on transformer. Easy to mix them up.

Does it have an adjustable Voltage Regulator?

It's transformer regulated. Also a bridge rectifier between transformer and exciter stator. Check that transformer and other AC lead go on AC terminals on rectifier, and F1 and F2 go to the + and - .

Check rectifier, it is really four diodes cast into one block. Between each set of prongs is a diode, should only conduct one way.
