Questions on AIS Antenna

The reason electronics are left on is condensation. The theory being that powered equipment is not as prone to moisture. National Fisherman had an a lengthy article about it several years ago. Not sure I buy into the theory, but it did make some valid points.
 
Well...if there are socketed chips, thermal expansion and cooling can work them out (part of the reason PC CPUs are clamped). Also surges at power on are bad. Balancing that is finite life of components like capacitors.

For me, though, it's convenience. I leave my pilothouse nav laptop (Coastal Explorer, Actisense to NMEA2000, and AIS) on, and it's also running Blue Iris for my cameras, keeping my Dropbox synced, and itself up to date with Windows Update. Of course it reboots after Patch Tuesdays...
