Twins Screws Near New Bern, NC?

As many of you know, we are now back on the water with our Navigator 4200. Our new boat has twins and I have never piloted a twin-screw boat before. As was the case with our last boat, there will be a learning curve. I know there are a few of you guys in and around the Neuse River area. Do any of you have twin engines and nothing to do this weekend that would be interested in giving me some pointers? Bess is out of town on business, so I will be down at the boat learning my way around. It would be a good time to take it out for a spin and do some maneuvers in the river.

But the learning curve for twins is about 20 times easier than a single.


Both my young son and the sons of several of my friends wound up better boat handlers than their dads in just a few years of very part time boating....so maybe computer gaming is a good thing...


Twins are much more intuitive because now you have more of an advantage over the elements than a single without thruster.


My first time with twins (except ships 110 foot plus) was when the broker told me to take my last boat to the fuel dock about 5 miles away. It was still prepurchase and refueling was for the sea trial...he sent along a dockhand to make me feel better...when I asked the dockhand said he had never handled a boat so I was on my own.


Go slow and use the pointers of others...and my bet is you will be fine.

In that case you just sync them by ear.

Thanks George! We are in Northwest Creek Marina... Sunday would be fine, although I think it would need to be earlier rather than later, but I can adjust my schedule if I need to.

(I send Rhys a Facebook message, but I don't know if he checks FB or not. Do you have any contact info on him for me?)

Sorry you can't make it. I still hope to get a lesson before we goto Jamaica. We will be there (here... I am here now) next weekend too (4-day weekend for Labor Day I think).
