Second skim coating and some obvious touch ups before primer and shadow coating and wet sanding to pick up surface faults

Yes, they seem so safe. Reminds me of out fishing alone in a small 22 foot bayliner. Was a beautiful evening under the stars and i was kicked back sipping a beer relaxing when i noticed my feet getting wet. I lifted the engine cover to find water half way up the side of the engine. Scared the crap outa me. I turned on the manual bilge pump the auto pump was already going then i decided to see if the engine would run and she did. I plotted a course back to the marina which was only about 4 miles off and headed in.
Anyway to make a long story short, all ended well i had left the cork out of the transom when i had serviced her:banghead:r.
In a storm it would be easy not to notice a little extra bilge water adding weight making her sit lower at the stern, then pooped.
I will pray for their safe return and light a candle at night

Yeah that's not good mate. Glad it worked out. I've been in massive storms and been rescued by Rescue organisations. We were in a 16ft boat, the weather turned quick and found ourselves in 6mtr seas and 40knot cross winds. I battled it for two hours tacking and surfing waves, then I ran out of fuel (not expecting the extra running times due to swells) then the boat high sided a wave and 'BOOM' a wave swamped me. The water shorted the battery and ate the terminals off in about 30 mins causing me to loose all power. It was about 20:00hrs and black and raining heavily. I was dead in the water.

I did get off a mayday mayday call straight after being swamped and before the batteries melted and was rescued but I was lucky. I was only 5 nautical miles offshore.


In the case of this trawler, I think something mechanical must have had a catastrophic failure and she flooded and sunk almost instantly.

Whatever it was it happened quick. The poor guys didn't even have time to active the EPIRB. Which supports my argument to pay the extra and buy the automatic ones that activated when submerged.

I just discovered this thread. Sent you a msg on facebook. I just had to know how it turned out i jumped from post page 17 to the present. Love to see the latest photos. Great to see a craftsman at work.
 
I have a question for you . How does the water escape from the aft deck i dont see any scuppers?

Through the rear door opening in the transom. When closed there is a 60mm opening underneath the door.

I'll also be adding drains (like the ones in a shower) in either corner that drain the aft deck onto the hull extension.
