50A split to 30A

I am (hopefully temporarily) the owner of 2 boats and new boat is about to occupy the slip next to old boat. The slip I've temporarily rented is a 50A setup, but both boats are 30A. I have a splitter.

Questions:

1. Are there any issues with splitting a 50A to two 30A plugs?

2. I'm considering putting new/bigger boat in the 30A slip and putting smaller/for sale boat in the 50A slip. My thinking is that two 30A is more efficient than splitting 50A and I should have that setup on the boat with the most electric demand.

Am I thinking correctly or does it even matter?

Not sure I understand the question but I will take a crack at it. I don't think there is anything wrong with splitting the 50 to 30... Marinco would not make such a splitter if it was not proper. And if memory serves me correctly, the common plug is 50 amps at 240 volts. So your splitter should be up to the task of providing full 30 amp service to each cord. But don't listen to me...this is my weakest area.
 
My boatslip has only a 50a available. I have been using a splitter for four years now with no problems. I would make sure the splitter you use has a way to securely connect the two 30a cords.
 
Have a 30-amp boat but a 50-amp dock outlet. So, have a simple 50-to-30-amp adapter at the dock-end of the cord.
 
Only thing wrong is big bucks for a splitter.
 
You guys correctly understood my poorly worded question. Sounds like the consensus is no issues using the splitter. I appreciate everyone's feedback.
 
Thanks Blue, but I found a good used one on eBay. I then discovered that the new boat came with one, so I now have two. Can I interest anyone is a nice, used splitter:)

The 50A (if a 240v source) will have 2 legs of 120V at 50A each, 100A at 120v ...Total

The 30A will have one 30A leg of 120v , two would be 60A of 120v ...Total

The ancient 120V 50A is seldom seen anymore but it would only have 50A of 120v ...Total

FF is correct....a common misconception of the 50A 125/250V service
 
It's a moot point, as each cord and the boat circuits they connect to can only handle 30 amps. The one issue is that the dock pedestal breaker won't trip until past the capacity of the cords, but if you keep your connectors clean all down the line and have the right breaker / fuse at the boat input, that shouldn't come into play.

have a 50 240 splitter that goes to 2 50 amp 110s for sale its a heavey duty hubble

I guess that is what I was trying to say. And I just so happen to have one of those arcane 120v/50amp splitters. It is basically worthless.
