Battery Replacement

Anything special I need to do before replacing my house bank?

Turn the selector switch off I'm thinking. Anything else? Can I stay plugged into shore power so I can run my AC?

Also turn off the breaker to the shore power charger.

What type of batteries? For house use, pairs of 6V golf cart batteries wired in series give you the best bang for the buck.

But if you have to have 12V house batteries buy a good brand of AGM batteries. Most other 12V flooded cell batteries are not true deep cycle no matter what the label says.

Clean out your battery boxes and sprinkle the bottoms with baking soda before you insert the new batteries.

They are Lifeline AGM like what is coming out, but about 25% more capacity. All the wiring is there and very nicely done so I wanted to keep that the same. Also installed a Balmar Smartguage to try to keep up with the house bank's state of charge/discharge.

Roger on the battery charger. Didn't think about that. Baking soda--will do.


What it looks like.

That small random looking red wire is part of my Smartguage wiring that I haven't hooked up yet. One wire to a positive terminal and one ground wire to a negative terminal. That's it.

If you have to have 12V AGMs, Lifelines are one of the best.

No need for the baking soda if they are AGMs. But it can't hurt either.
