Spectacular piece of engineering.

You can look at the series called 'great canal journey's with timothy and Pru' on YouTube from channel 4 TV, which shows the trip along this canal and lots of other beautiful English canals as well; worth a look! :)

Another very cool system of changing levels is the Anderton Lift on the Trent & Mersey Canal. Built in the late 1800s, this lift is still in operation moving boats between the canal and the River Weavers. We visited the Falkirk Wheel when we were in Scotland this past September. Pretty amazing, was even aided by the American Society of Civil Engineers. We were chatting with one of the folks running the thing and found out that canal has a 12' beam limit so no way one of our boats would make it through.
